JOB TITLE: Roster/RAM Associate (GIS, Visualization and Climate Resilience)

UNIT/DIVISION: Research, Assessment and Monitoring (RAM) Unit
DUTY STATION: Amman, Jordan

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE APPOINTMENT:
The GIS Associate position within WFP Jordan Country Office (JOCO) plays a critical role in supporting evidence-based decision-making and operational efficiency through geospatial analysis, remote sensing and visualization. Under the guidance of the Senior RAM Officer (Assessment, Analysis and Partnership), the incumbent will provide specialized GIS and remote sensing services to strengthen WFP’s programs and partnerships. This includes producing high-quality geospatial products for advocacy and operational planning, supporting technical activities for governmental partners, and contributing to innovative platforms such as the Real-time Impact and Situation Monitoring (PRISM) and the Multi-hazard Early Warning System. The role also involves transforming RAM and programmatic data into actionable visual insights, building GIS capacity within the office, and ensuring effective coordination with government and partners. By leveraging advanced GIS tools and methodologies, the position will enhance WFP’s ability to monitor interventions, respond to emerging risks, and communicate impact effectively.
 

ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Working under the guidance of the Senior RAM Officer (Assessment, Analysis and Partnership), the selected candidate will be responsible for:

 1. Provision of GIS and remote sensing services to WFP JOCO operations, including but not limited to producing various products for advocacy and operational purposes.

  • Support WFP JOCO operations by producing GIS products for advocacy and operational purposes.

  • Assist in maintaining geospatial databases, systems, and applications under the guidance of senior staff.

  • Use remote sensing and GIS to assist in monitoring the impacts of WFP interventions.

  • Maintain a working library of spatial data, print, and plot maps as requested.

  • Produce maps and geo-spatial analysis upon request from the operation team.

2. Support, GIS Technical activities for National Aid Fund (Activity 2):

  • Assist in the technical aspects of GIS support for the National Aid Fund (NAF).

  • Work collaboratively with the NAF GIS associate to support the timely delivery of outputs.

  • Coordinate with monitoring focal points at NAF to ensure collaboration between GIS and monitoring workstreams.

  • Provide basic technical input and support in discussions related to the Multi-purpose Information System (MIS) at NAF.

3. Provision of technical support for Real-time Impact and Situation Monitoring (PRISM) and Multi-hazard Early Warning System (Activity 7)

  • Assist in technical activities related to the Platform for Real-time Impact and Situation Monitoring (PRISM), including workshop facilitation, database support, and field validation.

  • Provide technical inputs for the PRISM bulletin drafting handover process to government partners, ensuring that technical information is documented.

  • Contribute to multi-stakeholder coordination by supporting technical discussions on the Multi-hazard Early Warning System.

  • Represent WFP to advocate PRISM initiatives upon Programme request in donor meetings and other external forums

4. Data visualization and transformation of RAM and Programmatic data

  • Support the transformation of RAM and programmatic data into visual products, including maps, charts, and infographics, to inform decision-making.

  • Use Esri's online applications to standardize and deliver geographic information through dashboards and visualizations.

  • Assist in creating presentations and infographics for proposals and reports to enhance the communication of results.


5. GIS training and capacity building

  • Assist in the development of a GIS/mapping capacity-building plan for the office.

  • Provide basic training on ArcGIS to office staff, focusing on enabling them to generate maps with supervision.

6. General Support tasks

  • Perform any other GIS-related duties as required to support unit objectives, under the guidance of the Head of Research, Assessment, and Monitoring and Evaluation 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:


Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area. Bachelor’s degree is an asset, preferably in the fields of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing.


Experience: Minimum six years of progressively professional working experience in the following technical knowledge:

  • Has worked with technical teams (Research Assessment and Monitoring (RAM), programme, Supply Chain, etc.)
  • Has worked with government partners (National Aid Fund, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Environment, etc.)
  • Has observed or assisted with policy discussions.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of WFP corporate indicators and RAM analytical work for different programme activities;
  • Proven ability to network effectively with multiple work units.
  • Ability to work with relevant technology for data visualization (Adobe Illustrator, Powerpoint, Canva, etc.).
  • Practical knowledge on how WFP’s GIS data is collected, compiled, analysed and presented for management decisions, programme adjustment and donor reporting.
  • Willingness to build capacity of others through formal and informal training processes.
  • Ability to facilitate and train different audiences.
  • Ability to meet agreed deadlines.

Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication English and Arabic.
