Mission and objectives
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
Through the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) in Bangkok and a number of country and multi-country offices as well as programme presences across the region, UN Women builds on a long history of support to governments, civil society and other actors to promote gender equality and empower all women and girls. We stand behind women’s equal participation in all aspects of life, focusing on five priority areas: addressing gender perspectives in intergovernmental processes; women’s political participation and leadership; enhancing women’s economic empowerment; ending violence against women and girls; and promoting women’s participation in peace and security and humanitarian action.

Context
The transition to a low-carbon and resilient future offers a critical opportunity to redress these inequalities. By empowering youth and placing women and other marginalized groups at the center, this transformation can drive innovative solutions to climate and disaster challenges, while fostering gender justice and human rights. The EmPower: Women for Climate Resilient Societies Project exemplifies this approach by strengthening capacities at regional and country levels to advance gender-responsive climate action. Through its second phase, the project supports women’s leadership, builds adaptive capacities for resilient livelihoods, and integrates renewable energy solutions. By engaging youth as key stakeholders, this initiative aims to inspire a new generation of climate advocates, amplify marginalized voices, and create sustainable and equitable pathways for the future.
The UN Volunteer Specialist will play a crucial role in advancing UN Women ROAP’s commitment to leveraging technology and youth leadership for gender-responsive climate action. Their support will focus on coordinating regional AI for Gender Equality initiatives, integrating digital and green skills development, and fostering partnerships with technology and innovation companies. Additionally, the UNV will facilitate consultations and capacity strengthening activities with diverse stakeholders, including young feminists, tech experts, and CSOs, to ensure inclusive and impactful solutions.
