Role Summary
The role plans, develops, monitors and evaluates the assigned WASH projects. This involves assessing WASH needs, designing projects, writing proposals and managing and reporting on the projects in line with the objectives, timeframe and budget. Providing technical support, leadership and strategic direction, the role include meeting quality standards, liaising with stakeholders, and managing and training staff.
Project Overview
Due to the war in Ukraine, there are vast WASH needs particularly in eastern Ukraine. The role requires someone able to oversee major construction activities, as well as work through existing technical groups in the communities reached.
Workplace & Conditions
Field position based in Ukraine.
Responsibilities:
• Project Management: Manage WASH projects to meet objectives within budget and timeframe. Implement strategies, set objectives, monitor activities, ensure reporting, and develop proposals aligned with country strategy.
• Staff Management: Line-manage the WASH Manager and other staff, overseeing daily management, development, and appraisals. Facilitate meetings for information sharing, provide coaching, supervise activities, and assess training needs in consultation with the WASH Advisor.
• Financial Management: Manage the WASH budget for projects, ensuring all expenses are within budget and meet standards according to good governance. Participate in coordination meetings, representing Medair.
• Quality Management: Promote standard operating procedures, implement data collection, management and analysis according to Medair systems. Ensure WASH projects are implemented in line with donor proposals and standards.
• Logistics: Support the logistics activities of WASH staff, particularly in relation to the purchasing of supplies and equipment for the assigned WASH activities. Liaise with the support team to ensure items are procured, transported, stored, managed and accounted for correctly.
Qualifications, Experience & Technical Competencies:
• University degree in a technical field, preferably in water and sanitation.
• Language skills: Good English (spoken and written)
• 2 years of post-qualification experience in Water/Environmental Engineering or Management or Civil Engineering or Hydrology/Geology or relevant WASH degree.
• Supervisory management experience
• Experience in the NGO sector
Behavioural Skills:
• Strong servant leadership skills with a consultative management style
• Creative, open-minded, flexible, self-learner, with good understanding of cross-cultural issues
• Capacity to work under pressure and manage personal stress levels
• Able to oversee multiple tasks, prioritising and delegating as required
• Good communication skills
