Context

IOM Nepal Migration and Development Department works closely with the Government of the Nepal and implements different projects to support strengthening capacities in migration governance, evidence-based policy and program planning on migration, guided by the country’s National Plan, yearly plans of the respective Ministry, United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework and Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration.

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Migration and Development Department the incumbent will be responsible for assisting in implementation of activities of Migration and Development team. This will include supporting the team in organizing capacity building initiatives of various projects, protection of Nepali migrant workers in vulnerable situation, strengthening migration governance through roll out of Global Compact on Migration and maintain effective coordination and liaison with range of stakeholders including Ministries, CSOs, private sector and academia.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the National Migration and Development Officer/ Head of LM & HD Department and in close coordination with the Migration and Development team, the intern will contribute to the department’s efforts by supporting the development and dissemination of communication materials and infographics. This includes the design and production of visuals, ensuring compliance with IOM and donor branding guidelines, and providing technical assistance in creating engaging and informative materials for stakeholders. More specifically, the intern will be engaged in:



1. Communication and Design

• Develop infographics, brochures, posters, and other communication materials to visually represent project deliverables.
• Design knowledge and visibility products in line with IOM’s and donor branding guidelines.
• Support the preparation and enhancement of info-sheets, reports, and presentations for various stakeholders.
• Ensure high-quality outputs and innovative designs tailored to project needs.

2. Support to Project Activities

• Draft meeting minutes, administrative and financial documents as required.
• Assist in correspondence preparation, briefings, and presentations related to migration and development topics.
• Any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Furthermore, UN Community Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:

• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
• Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
• Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
• Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
• Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

2. Results/Expected Outputs:

• Effective management of the project activities under the Migration and Development Programme.
• The visibility of activities implemented under Migration and Development is improved.
• Regular reviews of the workplan are undertaken, action taken, and reports provided.
• Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment.
