A roster of suitable candidates will be established for this post as a result of this selection process for fixed-term appointments against both established posts and positions funded by general temporary assistance (GTA).

Organizational Context

The Court Management Section (CMS) is in the Division of Judicial Services within the Registry. CMS has the Registry’s delegated responsibility to provide support to core processes of the Court’s judicial proceedings, in particular for the court operations and judicial information management. This includes (i.a) representing the Registrar during the court proceedings, supporting the current court applications and keeping a full and accurate record of all proceedings before the Chamber.

Furthermore the Section is responsible for the receipt, processing and distribution of the official court filings, production of transcripts and the audio-visual recording of the proceedings. Additionally, CMS, is the Registry’s designated custodian of the record of proceedings and is therefore responsible for the management of judicial records and information, both in original form as well as in their electronic format.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Judicial Operations Unit, the incumbent will perform the following duties:

  • Represents the Registry during the court proceedings;
  • Drafts SOPs, filings and memoranda in relation to the activities of the Court Management Section;
  • Coordinates the preparation and support of the hearings;
  • Handles the evidence in accordance with the applicable standards;
  • Follows up closely the cases assigned to her/him in order to provide proper advice when required and ensure the accurate distribution of filings.

Essential Qualifications

Education:

Advanced university degree in law, preferably criminal or international law or in legal studies or social sciences is required. A first-level university degree, in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience is accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience:

A minimum two years (four years with a first level university degree) of professional experience in a Court environment and in criminal cases, at a national and/or international level is required. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of international legal instruments, in particular relevant to the ICC, the Legal texts of the ICC and the registration rules is required;
  • Knowledge of courtroom procedures and the roles of all those involved in their preparation and support is required;
  • Knowledge of eCourt applications and evidence handling is required;
  • Excellent drafting skills for legal texts, memoranda and filings related to the activities of the Court Management Section;
  • Analytical skills as demonstrated through research and analysis of a range of legal issues and interpretation and application of international instruments, and the ability to develop and present results/recommendations/opinions clearly and concisely (spoken and written);
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (spoken and written) skills;
  • Fully proficient computer skills and ability to use relevant software application;
  • Excellent organisational skills;
  • Tact and discretion;
  • Accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.

Knowledge of Languages:   

Proficiency in one of the working languages of the Court, English or French, is required. Good working knowledge of the other is essential. Knowledge of another official language of the Court (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and Spanish) would be considered an asset.

General Information
