Mission and objectives
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme, headquartered in Bonn Germany, contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. UNV work with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated and well supported UN Volunteers into development programming and promote the value and global recognition of volunteerism. UNV is administered by the United Nations Development Programme (https://www.undp.org/).
The UNV Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok, one of six Regional Offices in different locations around the world, forges opportunities for the mobilization of UN Volunteers in support of the UN system’s activities on peace and development, as well as to support volunteerism as a form of civic engagement through increased capabilities and regional partnerships with UN and non-UN entities.
At the country level, UNV Field Units interact with UN entities to integrate volunteerism into their development agenda and for deployment of National UN Volunteers.

Context
Under the direct supervision by the Country Coordinator, UNV Field Unit in India, the Programme Assistant contributes to the effective implementation of the communication and social media strategies leading to increased feasibility of United Nations Volunteers for better & strategically positioning of UNV in the country, enhanced deployment of UN Volunteer(s), diversification of partners and better talent & advocacy outreach.
Task description
Under the direct supervision of UNV Country Coordinator, the UN University Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
• Assist in drafting and designing UN Partners specific communications products such as leaflets, facts sheets, posters, etc. highlighting the impact and value addition of UNV(s);
• Support in mapping and creating of data base of universities and their alumni cells in the area of communication and journalism for talent acquisition;
• Support in mapping of the organizations working on the tribal development issues for talent acquisition
• Support in the designing, planning and execution of communications and social media strategy for the India Field Unit for better outreach and talent acquisition;
• Coordination support for capturing the volunteering journey/voices of UN Volunteer(s) serving with various UN Agencies through blog, articles, photo documentation etc.;
• Support in the curation and coordination of events, campaigns etc. for talent acquisi-tion;
• Maintain database and repositories of communication assets /materials /photo/videos – with thematic categorization proper referencing.
Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:
• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for in-stance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
• Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
• Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publica-tions/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
• Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
• Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
