Internships
The IAEA accepts a limited number of interns each year. The internships are awarded to persons studying towards a university degree or who have recently received a degree (see Internship web pages for further details).
The purpose of the programme is\:
- To provide interns with the opportunity to gain practical work experience in line with their studies or interests, and expose them to the work of the IAEA and the United Nations as a whole;
- To benefit the IAEA's programmes through the assistance of qualified students specialized in various professional fields.
- The duration of an internship is normally not less than three months and not more than one year.
Organizational Setting
The Department of Technical Cooperation (TC) consists of the Office of the Deputy Director General, four regional Divisions (Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Europe and Latin America), the Division of Programme Support and Coordination and the Division of the Programme of Action for Cancer Therapy (PACT). It provides strategic direction for the IAEA's technical cooperation programme, and is responsible (in close collaboration with Member States) for the planning, formulation, implementation and monitoring of the programme, in line with the IAEA Medium Term Strategy.
The Division of Programme Support and Coordination is responsible for the development, promotion and consistent application of strategies, policies, standards, tools and systems to support the technical cooperation programme. This includes quality assurance and enhanced results-based programme management, training and capacity development, expanded cooperation through existing and new partnerships and resource mobilization, efficient management of financial resources, data and information, as well as outreach and reporting.
The Quality Assurance Section (TCQAS) is responsible for the management of quality in TC process and policy development. It defines quality criteria, performance indicators and review mechanisms and facilitates their implementation, promotes results based management as an approach to quality, and prepares and delivers training and learning tools for IAEA staff and Member State personnel involved in the TC programme.
Main Purpose
The Section provides support to all regional divisions in task related to quality control, monitoring and reporting on project progress and achievements. Data visualization enables clear communication on progress and results.
This assignment is focused on collecting, analysing, and developing comprehensive visualization tools in support to all functions of the Section and Division in general.
Quantitative and qualitative data analysis from TC Programme and TC projects will be developed to provide analytics for TCP Achievements; and backstopping monitoring TCPC functions-Country Programme Framework (CPF), Project Achievement Report (PAR), Project Progress Analysis Reports (PPAR) and Quality review process.
Functions / Key Results Expected
Under the supervision of the Section Head - TCQAS, und following the guidance of Senior Staff, the intern will\:
- Support the development of a database with portfolio data from all available sources for the period 2000-2024.
- Integrate data from TC portfolio with additional interventions on High-level initiatives delivered by the Agency (NA, NS, NE, etc).
- Provide the technical backup for the development of dashboards where data is accessible (CPF database, PPAR database, PAR database, etc.).
Qualifications and Experience
- University degree in engineering, statistics, IT or related area.
- Advanced skills and experience in Excel for data analysis
- Knowledge of data visualization and analysis tools
- Experience in quantitative and qualitative data analysis
- Experience in developing dashboards for data presentation is desirable
- Knowledge of Agenda 2030 and SDGs methodology and knowledge of the IAEA and TC programme is an advantage.
- Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of another official IAEA language (i.e. Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) an asset.
Applicant Eligibility
- Candidates must be a minimum of 20 years of age and have completed at least three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a first degree.
- Candidates may apply up to one year after the completion of a bachelor's, master's or doctorate degree.
- Candidates must not have previously participated in the IAEA's internship programme.
- Good written and spoken English essential; fluency in any other IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish or Russian) an asset.
- Candidates must attach two signed letters of recommendation to their application.
