Operational Context

The Global Infrastructure Section (GIS) is one of the four pillars of the Global Mobility and Infrastructure Service (GMIS) within the Division of Financial and Administrative Management (DFAM). The UNHCR Shop unit falls within the Global Infrastructure Section.

The UNHCR Shop’s purpose is to procure, sell, and dispatch core visibility and promotional items to UNHCR staff and operations worldwide. It supports Public Outreach by providing items for events and helps ensure brand compliance across the full range of visibility items and merchandise. The overall aim of the UNHCR Shop is to support colleagues globally, mobilize additional financial support for UNHCR, and raise awareness and empathy for forcibly displaced people.

To achieve this aim, the UNHCR Shop’s vision includes constant optimization and the establishment of new methods for disseminating information about the mandate, as well as diversifying revenue streams. As part of its framework to raise awareness and funds for UNHCR, the UNHCR Shop is incorporating e-commerce and offering a customized user experience through its digital platforms.

Position Purpose
The purpose of this role is to oversee the migration of the UNHCR Shop’s current e-commerce platform and implement innovative business development strategies aimed at enhancing our services to UNHCR colleagues and reaching out to external audiences.

The position involves managing the transition to a new digital platform, ensuring a smooth and efficient migration process while optimizing the user experience for both colleagues and future customers. In addition to platform migration, the role will focus on developing and executing business development ideas to enhance UNHCR’s visibility both online and offline, while diversifying revenue streams to increase financial support for the agency. The role will also support the UNHCR Shop in its daily operations.

The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Assistant UNHCR Shop Officer.


Duties and Responsibilities
E-commerce platform migration
• Lead and coordinate the migration of the UNHCR Shop’s current e-commerce platform to a new digital solution by Shopify.
• Manage the end-to-end transition process, ensuring data integrity, functionality, appropriate content, and continuity of services.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to ensure successful project execution, resolve any technical issues, and maintain a seamless migration experience.

User experience optimization
• Assess and enhance the design, functionality, and navigation of the new e-commerce platform to ensure a user-friendly experience for both UNHCR colleagues and external customers.
• Monitor feedback from users and stakeholders, implementing improvements to meet their needs effectively.
• Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in e-commerce to continually improve the platform’s performance.

Business development
• Support the formation and execution of business development strategies to increase UNHCR Shop’s visibility and outreach both online and offline.
• Assist with identifying and exploring opportunities for revenue growth by introducing new products, services, or partnerships.

Daily operations and reporting
• Assist in the daily operations of the UNHCR Shop, ensuring efficient supply chain processes.
• Support addressing operational issues as they arise and propose solutions to enhance workflow efficiency.
• Develop and upkeep reports related to sales, inventory and demand planning.
• Prepare monthly reports for financial reconciliation and quarterly inventory verification documents.
• Provide regular updates to management on key performance indicators (KPIs) and progress on platform migration.
• Actively participate in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and strategic planning discussions to contribute to the Shop’s long-term success.
• Perform other related duties as required.



Desired Candidate Profile
Degree requirements and field of education
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Business Administration/Management, Commerce, International Relations or any appropriate related field from an accredited university.
Work experience
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience.
• Proven track record of working with the Shopify platform.
• Familiarity with UN administrative, financial, and procurement regulations and practices.
Technical skills
• Knowledge of customizing all-in-one e-commerce platforms, particularly Shopify.
• Good understanding of approaches to enhance user experience.
• Computer literacy: proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and knowledge of any ERP system.
• Strong analytical skills.
Soft skills
• Strong interpersonal skills to engage all stakeholders for successful project implementation.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and implementing innovative solutions.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills to ensure timely roll-out.
