Context

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan was established in 2002 as a political Peace Keeping mission, directed and supported by the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Missions – DPKO. The Security Section plays a critical role in safeguarding personnel, facilities, and operations by minimizing risks and ensuring staff safety. It provides support through safety guidance, security advisories, and personal protection measures to help staff navigate complex environments. Additionally, the section offers security-related trainings such as SSAFE, AST, ETB and others to enhance preparedness. Assistance is also provided in managing the psychological effects of operating in high-risk areas, helping staff adapt to new security protocols and mitigate anxiety or stress associated with mission activities. Through continuous monitoring and coordination with local authorities, the Security Section ensures a secure working environment, enabling staff to carry out their duties with confidence and resilience.

Task description

Under the overall supervision of the Principal Security Adviser (PSA) and the general management of the Deputy PSA, the Local Security Assistant will be assigned at the Security Training Unit (STU) and will report to the Supervisor of the Unit. Under the direct supervision of Chief of Security Training Unit National UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

 Administrative Support for Security Training Activities:
Provide logistical and clerical support during the planning and execution of security trainings such as SSAFE, AST, ETB, and others, including setting up training rooms, distributing materials, and assisting with registration and attendance tracking.
 Preparation of Routine Documentation and Records:
Assist in preparing and formatting training-related documents such as attendance sheets, feedback forms, and reports. Ensure all completed forms are properly filed and accessible for future reference.
 Data Entry and Records Management:
Enter and update participant data in training databases, ensuring that records of attendance, certification status, and evaluation results are accurate and up to date.
 Support for Communication with Participants and Stakeholders:
Assist in sending invitations, reminders, and follow-up emails to training participants and relevant stakeholders. Help respond to routine inquiries regarding training schedules and requirements.
 On-Site Support During Trainings:
Provide direct assistance during training sessions such as SSAFE, AST, ETB, and other security courses, including setting up equipment, distributing materials, and offering support to trainers and participants as needed.
 Monitoring Attendance and Reporting Participation:
Track participant attendance during training sessions and ensure accurate completion of attendance registers. Compile attendance data for internal reporting purposes as directed by senior staff.
 Clerical Assistance with Training Materials and Policies:
Help maintain and organize physical and digital copies of training policies, guidelines, and reference materials. Assist in preparing briefing notes and presentations under the guidance of senior staff.
 Performs any other functions as may be assigned by the Supervisor
