PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:

The Delivering Resilient Enterprises and Market Systems (DREAMS) program is a collaboration between three leading organizations in the field of global poverty alleviation: Village Enterprise, Mercy Corps, and IDinsight. The DREAMS program aims to improve the well-being of 150,000 women, children, and men over the course of the five years. Targeting refugees and host community members in the West Nile region of Uganda, our innovative approach will layer two evidence-based models [1] – poverty graduation and market systems development – to achieve increased household income, savings, and assets: improved food security and wellbeing.

 GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:

The Cleaner reports to the Operations Assistant and is responsible for providing support to the operations team on cleaning of Mercy Corps programming in Yumbe office. Assists in the achievement of MC program objectives with the facilitation of operations duties.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Check and clean all rooms and exterior of the office and exterior of the office premises, removing cobwebs, dusting windows, cleaning all office tables among others.
  • Make sure all the dishes and utensils are all kept clean.
  • Sweep patios (front and back) every day.
  • Wash the laundry for the office including kitchen and washrooms towels.
  • Always ensure water supply to the office and the tanks are always full.
  • Raise any plumbing issues of plumber and electricity to the supervisor.
  • Ensure that all the supplies are properly inventoried, controlled, distributed, replenished, and reported.
  • Attend to visitors.
  • Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.
  • Assist in maintaining good records of the stock in the store by ensuring that there are proper records.
  • Collect and empty garbage in assigned place and had them burnt.
  • Ensure that drinking water is always available by filtering it.
  • Support in making petty cash purchases when asked.
  • Assist the Admin office in loading printers, receiving purchased office supplies, and entering the details in stock records.
  • Assist in receiving visitors at the reception and answering calls whenever Admin officer is away.
  • Receive incoming office calls and managing the office phone book whenever the admin officer is away.
  • Prepare break tea for all staff early enough and coffee for the guests.
  • Offer administrative support to staff from different departments in photocopying and binding of documents for facilitations at office and in field.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REPORTS DIRECTLY TO:  Operations Assistant

WORKS DIRECTLY WITH: Program & Operations staff

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Responsible and trustworthy, punctual, clean.
  • A working knowledge of English is desired.
  • Must have initiative and work largely unsupervised.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the similar role with reputable organization
  • Minimum of ‘O’ level certificate.
