Background of the project
The IRC has a contractual obligation to provide visibility and communicate about the EU funding it receives for each EU-funded program. The goal of this communication is to increase public awareness of the EU’s support and to maintain strong backing for humanitarian aid among key stakeholders and the general public. To meet this objective, the IRC is committed to creating impactful communications and experiences that attract media attention and engage audiences.
Scope of work:
The EU Donors Visibility Communications Consultant will provide strategic guidance to implement visibility and communications activities for IRC’s projects funded by the EU (ECHO and INTPA).
The consultant will be assigned to project manage approximately 10 content collections and create specific final communication deliverables for approximately 15 grants. This role includes producing shoot content and IRC’s EU-funded programmes, coordinating with dedicated photographers and videographers to create innovative content, and creating articles and videos aiming specifically at showcasing the impact of the IRC’s EU-funded work.
Deliverables:
- Collecting content around our EU-funded programmes
- Plan content collection trips to the IRC’s EU-funded programmes - mainly in MENA and East Africa, in liaison with the HQ, regional and in-country communication colleagues, to capture interviews, photographs and video footage.
- Coordinate photographers/videographers on shoots and itineraries.
- Collaborate with program colleagues to spot compelling and inspiring stories among IRC’s beneficiaries and staff that are likely to interest and be shared by IRC’s European and global audiences.
- Travel to program sites to collect photography and videography documenting the IRC programmes and collect audio and video interviews of the beneficiaries and IRC field staff.
- Write and review case studies summarizing the interviewee stories and the IRC impact in their lives.
- Organizing and creating the final communication deliverables to meet our commitments to the EU donors
- Engage with the Awards Management Unit, program, and grant teams to provide strategic input, based on the scope of each grant, budget available, time frame and commitments.
- Ensure that communication proposals align with donor contractual requirements through strategic guidance.
- Write and publish human-interest articles, photo stories and social-media posts for IRC web platforms
- Write concepts/ scripts/ storyboards for videos for the organizations’ channels and see them through post-production to the final product.
- Suggest editorial roadmap plans and request inputs to digital communication teams for publication on IRC channels.
- Write and review press releases based on global media colleagues across various markets insights and suggest strategic planning for external publication of EU funded content.
- Research dedicated photographers/videographers and support on the procurement and hiring.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidate Profile
- Degree in a relevant subject, or equivalent proven experience in communications.
- Full proficiency in English. Professional working proficiency in Arabic is an asset.
- Strong ability to think creatively and produce innovative content.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Experience in writing articles and social media post copies to a high standard within tight time frame.
- Design, photo and video editing skills including using Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Adobe Lightroom.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills and the ability to work to deadlines, prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of social media and the digital world.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, providing support as required, and build and maintain excellent relationships across the organization.
- Experience of video editing, basic graphic design.
Terms of Execution
- Contract Duration: 6 months, with the possibility of extension
- Part-time position (20 hours a week), with the possibility of a full-time extension
- Possible occasional travel to locations where teams are working for content collection
- Location: Berlin and open to remote
