Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Radio Miraya Unit within the Communications and Public Information Section of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), Juba. The incumbent directly reports to the Chief, Radio and Chief Communications and Public Information Section.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Radio Producer may be responsible for the following duties: • Responsible for production or supervision of production of a diverse range of radio products in support of major communications campaigns including public service announcements, news stories, interviews, features for local, regional, and international broadcasts in line with overall communication strategy. • Ensure and/or supervise the production of digital audio and multimedia content for posting on digital media platforms. • Coordinate and work with other sections of the Strategic Communications and Public Information Office of UNMISS to ensure consistency in radio and digital messaging and conformity with Mission’s overall communications strategy. • Draft and/or edit scripts prepared by junior officers; evaluate results and impact of communications activities; report on developments, trends and attitudes regarding UNMISS, prepare unit periodic reports as requested. • Support Chief of Radio in the daily supervision of the Radio team in Juba and its correspondents in the region. • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of radio broadcasts and programming, including using analytic tools. • Conduct monitoring, fact-checking, research and analysis using tools at disposal to understand how misinformation or disinformation might influence radio listeners and public at large understanding of issues about UNMISS and propose responses in collaboration with concerned Mission units. • Perform in-house training for junior staff on case-by-case basis • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in journalism/communications, international relations, political science, broadcasting or other related fields. A first level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
At least five (5) years of progressively responsible experience as a radio producer is required. Proven experience in planning, writing, on air-presentation as well as overseeing the production of radio programmes is required. International radio production experience is required. Experience in working in or about conflict/ or post conflict situation is desirable. Experience working with the United Nations or other similar international organisation is desirable. At least one (1) year of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the UN secretariat. For this vacancy, fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of an additional UN official language is desirable.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
