Senior Research Associate

CIFOR – ICRAF hosted by The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking for one (1)dedicated and motivated Senior Research Associate to be part of the Governance, Equity and Well-being team.
About the role: The selected candidate for this position will be the postholder to assist on activities in projects that will include work in Africa, Asia and Latin America. This position will provide research, engagement, and capacity development expertise to two projects - How are we doing? An adaptive learning tool for gender-responsive initiatives (funded by USAID) and Capacity development for equitable jurisdictional REDD+ (funded by CLUA) in collaboration with those projects’ key partners. The postholder will be based in Peru or have the right to work in Peru. The role will include travel within Peru and internationally.
Key responsibilities:
• Lead the design and implementation of field and desk research, engagement and co-creation activities, as well as the rights and social justice components across CIFOR-ICRAF’s projects.
• Collaborate in the production of key project outputs, including coordination with CIFOR-ICRAF's partners and Communications team.
• Design and deliver participatory research, participatory monitoring, and capacity-strengthening workshops relevant to the project goals.
• Design and facilitateengagement activities (ranging fromco-creation methods to presentations at meetings and workshops) aligned with the project goals.
• Lead, co-design, and participate in research and engagement activities to achieve key outputs under an adaptive learning tool for gender-responsive initiatives.
• Lead, co-design, and participate in research and engagement activities to achieve key outputs under capacity development for equitable jurisdictional REDD+.
• Translate and edit texts as required to meet the projects' objectives.
• Participate in administrative tasks, including reporting for both projects and grant writing to support the expansion of relevant work.
• Participate in team meetings and represent both research teams in relevant meetings/workshops as required by the projects' objectives.
What are we looking for?
• Master’s degree in Anthropology, Gender Studies, Geography, Law, Sociology or related Social Sciences. • Minimum of 8 years of experience applying rights and environmental justice approaches to research as well as engagement on climate change, development and/or conservation fields in the Peruvian Amazon. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish.
• Practical experience elaborating qualitative and quantitative research methods, diagnostics, evaluations, and trainings.
• Demonstrated experience conducting research in the Peruvian Amazon.
• Demonstrated experience conducting research, capacity development, and engagement with Indigenous Peoples and local communities; experience working with rural women is a plus.
• Demonstrated experience publishing academic articles and/or research for impact dealing with rights and environmental justice themes/issues.
• Demonstrated experience organizing and facilitating multi-stakeholder workshops.
• Demonstrated experience engaging with government and civil society actors to disseminate research in Peru at national and subnational levels.
Demonstrated awareness of Peru’s climate change and forest governance and policy context/priorities; awareness of REDD+ processes outside Peru are a plus.What are we offering?
