The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to our mission of saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low-and middle-income countries. CHAI was founded in 2002 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, with the goal of dramatically reducing the price of life-saving drugs and increasing access to these medicines in the countries with the highest burden of the disease. Over the following two decades, CHAI has expanded its focus. Today, along with HIV, we work in conjunction with our partners to prevent and treat infectious diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis. Our work has also expanded into cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and other non-communicable diseases, and we work to accelerate the rollout of lifesaving vaccines, reduce maternal and child mortality, combat chronic malnutrition, and increase access to assistive technology. We are investing in horizontal approaches to strengthen health systems through programs in human resources for health, digital health, and health financing. With each new and innovative program, our strategy is grounded in maximizing sustainable impact at scale, ensuring that governments lead the solutions, that programs are designed to scale nationally, and learnings are shared globally.

Position Overview:
This position is in support of CHAI’s Infectious Diseases, Research and Labs (IDRL) access program which negotiates price reductions for drugs and diagnostics, customizes products for resource-limited settings, and works to broaden the supply base and increase the quality of these treatments. Specifically, this position will lead in budgeting, financial analysis, reporting and overall grant financial management for IDRL access program.
Key measures of success in this role include: timely and accurate reporting on project costs; in-depth understanding of variances to budget and forecasts, with the ability to effectively communicate this information to non-finance partners; proven capability to provide strategic thought partnership to non-finance and finance partners; effective and proactive engagement with our internal clients and external partners; a demonstrated command of the underlying operational and financial content of the projects supported; and proactive identification and resolution of the accounting, financial planning, and financial compliance issues.
The Manager must be able to function independently and flexibly in a fast-paced environment, often working under tight donor-driven deadlines.
Grant Management
- Support program leads in creating comprehensive budgets for new grant proposals (or re-budgeting of existing grants) that meet both internal CHAI requirements and external donor requirements
- Create and manage the preparation and completion of financial reports, audit reports, and invoices for donors, working directly with relevant grant leadership, CHAI’s various country teams, HQ Finance teams as needed
- Liaise with sub-grantees and subcontractors to manage all relevant budget and financial management components within the scope of the grant
- Track and analyze monthly spending on grants by country and global teams
- Ensure strict compliance with donor financial requirements
- Manage financial close-out process for grants
- Provide strategic thought partnership on grant financial management to non-finance partners, fostering a deep understanding of financial processes and enhancing collaboration
Monthly Financial Review and Annual Budgeting
- Develop and implement comprehensive tools to facilitate Manager and/or Director review of posted expenses across relevant programs, collaborating closely to identify necessary adjustments
- Conduct in-depth analysis and reporting on monthly variances of operational expenses against budget; partnering with Managers and Directors to provide clear variance explanations and drive ongoing adjustments to financial plans and forecasts
- Lead the annual budgeting and semi-annual re-forecasting for the specific access program, ensuring alignment with programmatic goals and accurate reflection of available financial resources
- Collaborate with the appropriate Directors and Managers to allocate and track funding from their respective access program to other CHAI programs, including country teams
Other
- Support development of alternative scenario analyzes to facilitate decision-making by senior management; lead in financial risk management
- Identify areas of improvement and develop / implement process improvement strategies to enhance efficiency
- Skilled in presenting and communicating financial information clearly and effectively to non-financial stakeholders, ensuring understanding and alignment across teams
- Perform other programmatic/operational duties as requested by the EVP

Requirements:
- Minimum 4–6 years of relevant work experience in financial planning and analysis roles (experience with an international non-profit/NGO is preferred)
- Strong commitment to CHAI’s values and mission
- Advanced degree; Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Master of Public Administration (MPA) preferred. A bachelor’s degree and relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of an Advanced degree.
- High emotional intelligence, patience, and thoughtfulness even in high-pressure, stressful situations
- Proficient in using office software such as MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with database management systems
