Our team and mission
This position is based at the ESA Centre for Earth Observation (ESRIN) - Frascati, Italy
The European Centre for Space Records (ECSR) is responsible for the management of the ESA Archives. The team manages both analogue and digital archives and is in the process of digitization of its collections. ECSR manages the administration and the technical archives of ESA (projects and missions) and had initiated in 2023 a promotion and awareness programme aiming at giving access to selected images and documentation.
The archival processing for the appraisal of semi-current and historical records is managed at the ECSR and includes a series of actions:
- The physical reception, appraisal, and preservation of documents;
- The creation of finding aids (catalogues) and drafting of series level descriptions based on international norms;
- The development of strategies for long-term preservation of hard-copies and digital records;
- The creation and update, when necessary, of the ESA historical Archives file plan;
- The management of access to information contained in the Archives in close cooperation with other departments managing ESA Information and Data.

ECSR manages the administration and the technical archives of ESA (projects and missions) and has initiated in 2023 a promotion and awareness programme aiming at giving access to selected images and documentation. In the context of the digitization of the ESA Archives, your role will be to:
- Participate in the appraisal of a series to support the implementation of the disposition decisions and the creation of the catalogue for their descriptions;
- Cataloguing the selected series by enriching metadata following ISAD(G) norm and Dubli Core;
- Support the curation of the images preserved in the software tool named SHIP.

Education
You must be a university student, preferably in your final or second-to-last year of a university course at Master’s level and you need to remain enrolled at your University for the entire duration of the internship.
Additional requirements
The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
