We have  been working in Nigeria since 2017. In Northeast Nigeria and more specifically in Borno, Taraba and Adamawa States, MI is currently active in the WASH, Protection and FNSL sectors for saving and  improving the lives of both the IDP/refugee  populations as well as the host communities. The WASH activities focus on improved access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene which include NFI distribution, solarization of boreholes, rehabilitation of hand pumps, construction of latrines and hygiene promotion. The protection activities focus on prevention and response to Gender Based Violence (GBV)  cases.  The Food Nutrition Security and Livelihood interventions mainly focus on micro gardening, pullet rearing for egg production, composting and Nutrition (food demonstration, referrals of malnutrition cases to nutrition partners, and sensitization on nutrition. Malteser International applies a participatory, gender-sensitive and inclusive approach.

To support our work in Pulka, we are recruiting to fill the position of a Gender Based Violence (GBV) Caseworker - National Position.

Under the management of the Area Coordinator Pulka, the GBV Caseworker in Pulka will be responsible for providing comprehensive support to survivors of gender-based violence within the Pulka community. Their primary objective is to ensure that survivors receive timely, confidential, and culturally appropriate assistance, including psychosocial support, medical care, and legal aid. Additionally, they will work to prevent GBV through community awareness campaigns and capacity-building initiatives.

Your responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one case management services to GBV survivors, ensuring confidentiality and a survivor-centred approach, and develop individualized care plans based on the needs and goals of survivors.
  • Coordinate with healthcare, legal, and other service providers to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Facilitate group PSS sessions for women and girls, using trauma-informed approaches, conduct individual PSS sessions as needed and develop and implement PSS activities that promote mental health and resilience.
  • Conduct awareness-raising sessions on GBV prevention and response within the community and advocate for the rights and protection of women and girls.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential case files and records, prepare and submit timely reports on activities and case progress to the line manager
  • Work closely with other GBV team members and partners and participate in coordination meetings and training as required.
  • Provide training and capacity-building sessions for local staff and community volunteers on GBV and PSS.

Your profile:

  • A minimum of a Higher National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies or Social Science related courses.
  • Experience as a caseworker in Pulka with a similarly motivated organization.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Excel and Word, including Teams and Outlook.
  • Excellent knowledge/experience in scanning and filing systems, with demonstrated ability to process information into action promptly.
  • Possess a positive attitude, and demonstrated integrity, confidentiality, approachability and diplomacy, with the ability to withstand work-related pressure, accurately follow instructions, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to express oneself through good communication skills: verbal and written, including fluency in English, and Hausa; fluency in the Mandara language will be advantageous
