Duties and Responsibilities
UNOG Medical Service is providing occupational health recommendations to 17.000 staff members including management (of which two third reside abroad) of 36 UN related organizations and aiming at: - Promoting the health of all staff to offer them a healthy work environment - Protecting staff from hazards risks, work-related diseases and injuries - Supporting those on sick leave or with a disability with workplace adjustments and/or a return-to-work plan - Organizing Emergency Care on and Medevacs off site This internship is located at the UNOG Medical Service which falls under Director of Administration (DoA) within the department of Human Resources Management Service (HRMS). The Intern reports to the Deputy Chief Medical Officer. In the frame of providing high quality professional care to all staff members and organizations our services should be clear to all team members and should meet professional standards in the (UN) occupational health field. Therefore, all our procedures should be updated and completed by end 2025. The intern will support the team reorganizing and completing the Quality Management Handbook UNOG Medical Service, which is practical and easy to use daily. Tasks will include: 1. Reading and understanding of existing standards of procedures and professional/UN guidelines/ISO. 2. Setting up a general overview of the Quality Management Handbook existing and possible missing SOPs 3. Proposing a common format for the SOPs, which can be updated easily. 4. Presenting a project proposal/n overall plan of approach for updating and completing the Quality Management Handbook 5. Checking with the involved team members whether existing SOPs are still applicable should be changed or improved or deleted and adjusting those SOP with input team members. 6. Interviewing the involved team members and proposing missing SOPs and writing missing SOPS with input of team members. 7. Checking with possible other stakeholders within UN whether information is missing and completing those SOPs. 8. Providing a draft Quality Management Handbook with all SOPs. 9. Implementing improvement and changes after discussion. 10. Presenting the final Quality Management Handbook to all team members and Chief HRMS or representative.
Qualifications/special skills
We are looking for applicants who will demonstrate their intention to study further or work in a field relevant to the work of UNOG Medical Service, like international occupational/public health. Further the applicant must have appropriate communication skills for interviewing and have analytical & report writing skills. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a university degree programme (bachelor’s level or equivalent) or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try, understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Teams experience is required Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts is desirable. Ability to design surveys and polls is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of French is desirable. An additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
