BACKGROUND:
Caseworker Intern is part of the Casework team and takes on refugee cases that require closer care and attention. The Intern will work with the team to provide ongoing assistance to refugee clients as part of holistic case management. The intern will assist the caseworker in providing services to the client. Specifically, the intern will focus on coordinating and providing grocery store orientations to newly arrived refugees, educating clients on how to use SNAP benefits, and forming a partnership with the New Roots Program to provide nutrition education.
Minimum Qualifications:RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the Caseworker, the Intern will assist with the following:
•Ensure clients have culturally appropriate groceries in their homes upon arrival
•Schedule and provide grocery store orientations to newly arriving clients; including transporting clients to the store and demonstrating how to navigate the store.
•Assist Caseworkers with online referrals to other programs as needed
•Work in partnership with New Roots program to provide nutrition education to clients and coordinate food box pick-ups and deliveries
•Maintain confidential health information & materials relevant to refugee populations with severe medical, mental, & social needs;
•Other relevant program support duties, as assigned

•Learn about the services that refugees are eligible for upon arrival in the U.S., including public benefits in Phoenix and local resources in the Metro area
•Learn about strategies for effective, holistic case management
•Develop resourcefulness and problem-solving skills to work independently in different situational contexts
•Learn to communicate effectively with clients across cultures
REQUIREMENTS:
•Must have a Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
•Cultural competency & consideration
•Excellent written & verbal skills
•Proficient with Excel & other Microsoft Office applications
•Self-starter, ability to complete projects with minimal supervision
•Access to reliable, insured vehicle
•Interest in social work, or international studies preferred, but not required
•Computer literacy, database experience preferred
•Ability to take initiative and work independently
•Empathy and open mindedness across-cultural environment
•Strong organizational skills
•Must be comfortable working with the LGBTQ and Asylum Seeker community
•Must complete a HireRight Background Check
