The Role

At Last Mile Health, we go as far as it takes for our patients. Do you have a strong background in project design, reporting, and community health programs, or experience in writing clear and compelling grant proposals that align with organizational goals? If so, you might be our next Senior Manager, Program Strategy and Performance.

The Senior Manager will play a key role in driving the success of the Program Strategy and Performance (PSP) team by providing essential support to program activities in collaboration with the Deputy Chief Program Officer. In this capacity, the Senior Manager will focus on developing and refining program content that aligns with the overarching country strategies, ensuring that the programmatic work is accurately and effectively positioned for proposals, donor reports, and external engagements. This position requires a deep understanding of program design and community health initiatives, which will be crucial in shaping strategies that meet both the organizational goals and the needs of the communities we serve.

This role is pivotal in aligning programmatic work with country strategies and ensuring effective positioning in proposals, donor reports, and external engagements. The Senior Manager will also manage program materials to inform partnerships and business development, collaborating with LMH’s portfolio, including Africa Frontline First, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, and Malawi. Additionally, the role involves crafting compelling narratives for grant proposals that align with organizational goals and working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure a data-driven approach to strategy design. By blending strategic insights and practical program knowledge, the Senior Manager will help ensure that LMH’s community health programs continue to expand in alignment with the organization’s mission, fostering strong relationships with stakeholders, donors, and partners.

This role is open to candidates either based in Accra, Ghana or the Eastern Seaboard of the United States. This position is only open to candidates who do not require any paid sponsored or unsponsored work authorization in Ghana or the US. This role is fully remote in the US and hybrid in Ghana. 

What you’ll do

Project Design & Organizational Growth

  • Work with leadership and program teams to develop project approaches for funding proposals that align with the organization’s mission and strategic goals. Craft customized proposals for specific funders, highlighting donor priorities. 
  • Synthesize programmatic data and insights into compelling narratives that resonate with funders through collaboration with LMH’s program portfolio and Partnerships & Communications team
  • Participate in or develop internal coordination mechanisms to improve collaboration across the Partnerships & Communications team and country teams on funding proposals and partner stewardship
  • Gather and analyze data from internal teams and external sources to ensure proposals are evidence-based. Collaborate with program staff to design project concepts, objectives, and deliverables that are clear and aligned with organizational and county strategies. 
  • Facilitate cross-departmental meetings to gather programmatic input, refine concepts, and finalize proposals collaboratively.
  • As needed, organize and participate in programmatic proposal review and design sessions, ensuring feedback is incorporated before final submission to strengthen the quality of each application.

Grant Reporting

  • Develop clear, compelling narrative reports that highlight the outcomes, impact, and progress of funded programs.
  • Gather, analyze, and present program data and performance metrics to demonstrate grant impact and effectiveness.
  • Customize reports for different donors, including foundations, government agencies, and corporate funders, ensuring that each report meets specific funder guidelines and expectations.
  • Prepare final grant reports, including a comprehensive summary of project outcomes, challenges, lessons learned, and budget reconciliation.
  • Support maintenance of a detailed grant reporting calendar, tracking all reporting deadlines and ensuring timely submission.
  • Collaborate with program managers, finance, and leadership teams to gather required information and ensure the accuracy of both narrative and financial reports; participate in ongoing grant performance performance reviews in order to inform reporting 

Program Performance & Strategy

  • Support refinement and updating of country program strategies, ensuring they are developed with a clear connection to the organization’s Theory of Change, ensuring long-term impact and sustainability.
  • Provide guidance and management of key projects to help strengthen LMH’s strategic approach to program growth, such as defining different approaches to partnership development in line with TOC; country program growth monitoring; country strategy design/review approach; gender mainstreaming and learning and innovation 
  • Support Program Directors/Country Directors and teams in strategic and set up for projects (may include MOU development, strategic/position documents, capability statements) 
  • Support the team where needed, on partner stewardship, donor visits, development of proposals, and speaking engagements in conjunction with the Partnerships & Communications team and the Deputy CPO

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science required in a related field such as public health, economics, international relations, gender studies, political science, or human rights
  • Master’s in Public Health, International Studies / Public Policy, Health Economics or related field
  • Demonstrated years of experience working in global public health, management consulting and/or public policy
  • Working  knowledge of community/primary healthcare policy, international health and development issues at the global level
  • Experience in public health in Sub-Saharan Africa
  • Demonstrated experience delivering value to clients on short time frames and in complex, fast moving work environments 
  • Demonstrated experience in project and operational management in complex environments
  • Experience motivating and empowering staff members to achieve key performance indicators
  • Experience working across organizational teams with a wide range of cultural contexts   
  • Experience working with stakeholders at multiple levels- global partners, technical managers and national governments

  • You have strong communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills; the ability to interface with diverse stakeholders in a range of multi-disciplinary settings

ForGhana, the range is $ $37,100 - $51,940 USDdependent upon experience doing an equivalent role. Please note that this compensation is subject to statutory taxes.

For the  United States, the range is $75,549- $87,801 USD dependent upon experience doing an equivalent role. Please note that this compensation is subject to statutory taxes.
