What we do

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and, at the same time, promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.

Purpose

The Medical Equipment Specialist is the focal point for all matters related to medical equipment in a given health-care facility or groups of facilities. S/he is the first reference person on technical issues for the ICRC’s clinical hospital staff. S/he ensures that medical equipment is properly installed, maintained and, if needed, repaired. S/he draws up strategies for the provision of medical equipment together with the Health and Logistics teams, and oversees their implementation.

Accountabilities & Functional responsibilities

  • Keeps an updated inventory of all medical equipment at the ICRC-run or supported health facility or group of facilities.
  • Ensures that medical equipment at the ICRC-run or supported health facility or group of facilities is functioning properly.
  • Plans and implements preventive maintenance of medical equipment.
  • Performs quality control of medical equipment and its maintenance, ; conducts corrective maintenance and repairs.
  • Identifies needs for new equipment, together with the Health team, and assists within its procurement; manages stocks of spare parts.
  • Trains health-facility staff in preventive and corrective maintenance of medical equipment.
  • Leads and supervises a team of medical equipment technicians.
  • Draws up reports as required and forwards them to the Hospital Administrator for dissemination.
  • Represents the hospital project internally and externally on all matters related to medical equipment.

Certifications / Education required

  • Bachelor's degree. in Biomedical engineer or technician.

Professional Experience required

  • At least 5 years' of experience in managing medical equipment in hospital settings in low-income contexts.
  • Experience with humanitarian projects a strong asset.
  • Experience in training staff with limited education.

What we offer

  • Salary Package: 2’037 – 3’518 USD/Month (As per ICRC salary scale, salary setting processes will determine fair setting in coherence with the qualifications of the applicant and the requirements of the job).
  • 13th Month of salary paid in December, pro rata basis in accordance with the period worked.
  • Annual Leave: 20 calendar working days of paid leave per year, pro rata basis in accordance with the period worked.
  • Health Insurance: 90% of premium fees under class B, coverage include: Doctor visits, Medicines, Therapy services, etc.)
  • International Retirement Saving Plan (IRSP): a contribution valued at 11.5% of your monthly salary, these savings are paid by the end of service as a lump sum.
  • Other benefits subject to internal rules and regulations: High Cost of Living Allowance (HCLA), Schooling allowance, eyeglasses, designated personal training budget for learning opportunities.

  • Location: Beirut - Lebanon 
  • Working Schedule: Monday till Friday, from 8 Am till 5 Pm. 
  • Type of contract: Fixed Term, 1 Year (Renewable based on performance and need for position).
