Duties and Responsibilities
Org. Setting and Reporting After the 2006 July War, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) initiated its Country Programme in Lebanon, responding to emerging issues through housing reconstruction, shelter provision and upgrading basic services, while laying the foundation for long-term sustainable solutions by means of urban profiling (including neighbourhood profiling) and other research, as well as urban policy analyses. UN-Habitat Lebanon has been working effectively with partners and urban planning actors at the community, national and international levels for the past 15 years to develop and implement programmes and interventions that contribute to the achievement of the targets of Goal 11 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. The intern will be working with the unit’s technical team and directly reporting to the Urban Planning & Design unit manager. Responsibilities Assists in designing graphic/visibility material pertaining to the unit’s different projects. Contributes to the development of pre-tender and tender documents which should include project drawings and details, 3D renders, bill of quantities (BoQ), specifications and terms of reference (ToR). Assists in designing innovative architectural and environmental urban solutions. Conducts project(s) site visits and prepares photographic documentation, sketches, mood boards and preliminary assessments – as requested. Prepares, disseminates and/or archives regular up-to-date records, files, documents, and work plans for the progress monitoring of project implementation (minutes of meetings, progress reports, dashboard, etc.). Contributes to the awareness raising schemes for local authorities and communities. Supports with report writing, documentation and analysis. Supports in any other tasks or duties required to ensure the program’s sustainability and growth.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent. Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite). Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Preferred areas of study: A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in the field of Architecture, or any related field is required. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.
