The Resource Mobilization (RM) and Partnerships team is one of the three functional teams within the External Relations Unit covering regional RM and Partnerships, Advocacy, and Communications, at UN Women’s Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (UN Women ROAP). The RM and Partnerships team focuses on establishing partnerships with public, private and non-traditional partners, and supporting, strengthening and building the capacity of country offices and programme presences with their resource mobilization and donor engagement efforts.

The RM and Partnerships team is looking for an experienced consultant to establish relationships with and generate funds through new private sector and non-traditional partners, such as IFIs, to increase resources available to deliver UN Women programmes across the Asia and the Pacific region.

The consultant will report to the Head of External Relations, who will be supported by the RM and Partnerships Coordinator and the Partnerships and Administrative Assistant who will be points of contact on the contract and payment issues. The consultant has no team members reporting to them.

Duties and Responsibilities

The scope of work prioritizes business development (prospecting, networking, and securing/nurturing new partnerships), supporting existing partner/project management, and capacity building to support the coordination of private sector and non-traditional donor engagement at country- and regional-level.

The consultant will have a particular focus on growing UN Women Regional Office Asia and the Pacific, country/multi-country offices and programme presences’ funding sourced from new private sector and non-traditional partners. The selected candidate will be expected to develop robust regional pipeline of prospects that convert into six and seven figure US$ partners in priority countries and/or the regional office. The consultant will create and manage private sector and non-traditional partner prospect intelligence, including recommended entry points and scope of partnership opportunities. Further, the consultant is responsible for creating template corporate pitches as well as tailoring pitches and background briefings for specific prospective partners. On a regular basis, the consultant will represent and report on progress of meetings secured with potential partners. The consultant will conduct corporate mapping and analysis of regional and country office prospective private sector and non-traditional partners’ priorities and opportunities, ensuring it is relevant, aligned with UN Women’s mandate and up to date.

The consultant plays a key role in strengthening the capacity of other UN Women personnel in the Asia and the Pacific region to pursue funding opportunities through private sector and non-traditional partner development as well as facilitating management

of select existing relationships and projects. The consultant will document and support knowledge management on best practice engagement with private sector and non-traditional partners within the Regional Resource Mobilization and Partnerships Community of Practice, which may include training, webinars and other resources. They will contribute to and coordinate elements necessary to build the capacity and skills in new high-value partnership development across UN Women offices in Asia and the Pacific. The consultant will provide technical advice and support on all aspects of the partnership cycle, including serving as primary focal point to coach UN Women personnel through the due diligence cycle. As and when required, the consultant will serve as regional focal point for select government partners.

The consultant is expected to work equally well autonomously and as a creative, collaborative member of the RM and Partnerships team within the External Relations Unit.

  • Robust regional pipeline of prospects and prospect intelligence developed; recommended entry points and scope of partnership opportunities with prospects
  • Template corporate pitches developed and customized pitches tailored for specific, prospective partners
  • Progress update on meetings secured with potential private sector and non-traditional partners
  • Progress update on meetings with select existing partners, including management of partner-funded projects
  • Corporate mapping and analysis of regional and country/multi-country office and programme presence prospective partner opportunities
  • Exchange and documentation of best practice engagement with prospective partners to support Resource Mobilization and Partnerships Community of Practice and discrete offices’ partner development efforts
  • Technical advice and capacity building delivered to regional, country/multi-country office and programme presence personnel
  • Overview of due diligence status, pipeline and advice provided
  • Engagement with select government partners as relevant

This is an office-based consultancy, working out of UN Women Regional Office in Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok. Representation at in-person meetings and networking events is expected in Bangkok, with potential for periodic, short business trips more broadly in the Asia and the Pacific region.

Required Skills and Experience

Education and Certification:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in business management, social sciences, public administration, international relations, communications, economics, or a related field is required
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional work experience in fundraising with the private sector, business development, marketing and sponsorship
  • Proven experience in identifying, developing and securing a new business pipeline, including relationship management
  • Experience brokering innovative partnerships and mobilizing resources from corporations in an international organization is highly desirable
  • Experience working in or with developing countries is an advantage
  • Good command of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) are required
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment is desirable;
  • Experience with the UN system is an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required, with excellent communication and writing skills

 

Languages:

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Working knowledge of any other UN official language is an asset.
