Job Summary:
 
Responsible for the Stand-By power generation and distribution on a 24 hour per day, 7 days per week basis and High Voltage distribution at South Camp. Responsibility ceases at the output side of the transformers.  Also responsible for the maintenance of all the generators (power plant, remote sites and standby).  Generators, HV switch gear and transformers shall be maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.   

Responsibilities:

Supervises a team of DHCs and Egyptian workers delivering the required technical works and services.  This includes prioritizing, scheduling and supervising tasks where practicable, competency training, performance management, absence and roster management, skills assessments, setting performance standards, providing a clean and safe working environment and ensuring equipment maintenance records are updated. Ensuring prescribed health and safety practices and procedures are adhered to, including but not limited to, conduct of startup meetings, toolbox talks, safety walk-throughs, up to date risk assessments and work method statements.

System Monitoring and Control:

  • Supervise all operation and maintenance activities involved with power generation, generator maintenance and operations.
  • Monitor the performance of generators, switchgears, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Supervise and operate the power plant control systems.
  • Ensure that each part of the High voltage equipment is maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations, MFO safety and technical regulations.
  • Implement control adjustments to maintain system stability and reliability.

Fuel System maintenance:

  • Conduct regular inspections of fuel tank equipment to identify potential Hazardous issues.
  • Ensures the efficient and economical use of diesel fuel when using the diesel generator to provide power.
  • Schedule and oversee preventive maintenance activities during scheduled cleaning of fuel tanks.
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure fuel tanks and equipment reliability.

Supervision:

  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment to identify potential issues.
  • Overseeing the scheduled maintenance of power plant equipment’s and their timely implementation.
  • Supervise the preparation of maintenance schedules for the High voltage distribution system, switchgears, and substations.
  • Schedule and oversee preventive maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure equipment reliability

Provides technical support to the Facilities Engineering Officer (FEO) and recommends modifications and changes in consumable materials or parts to improve performance and reduce cost.  Oversees the preparation of bills of material for development of the power plant site, generators or HV distribution system.   

Advise project managers on all issues relating to power production, distribution, and installation, including reviewing technical drawings from external contractors, collaborate with grid operators, emergency services, and relevant authorities, and effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders during island mode operations.

Ensures that each item of equipment and specialist tooling provided is maintained in accordance with the manufacturers, or relevant MFO, policy.   

Ensures that the maintenance schedules for equipment associated with generation and distribution are entered into SAP and maintained in a current state. 

Ensures accurate records of all work are maintained in SAP, all parts and consumables used during the maintenance of the generators and HV distribution system are entered into the relevant work order and man-hours expended are recorded against the relevant operation in the work order. 

Develop and implement emergency response plans for island mode scenarios, ensuring 24-hour uninterrupted power to the whole camp by providing 24-hour "on-call" duty personnel to supply electrical power, coordinate with relevant personnel and departments, and troubleshoot and resolve issues promptly to minimize downtime.     

Identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and cost savings, implement upgrades to bolster the power plant's island mode capabilities, participate in post-event analyses to learn and enhance future responses. Train and mentor operators on island mode procedures and protocols Keep abreast of industry best practices and technological advancements.   

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to Interpret blueprints, prepare electrical schematic drawings, statements of work, specifications and estimates of material and labor, and select proper materials to be used and plan tasks. 
  • Knowledge of electrical terminology including cable sizing and basic electrical design.
  • Must have excellent knowledge of 22KVA and 6.3KVA distribution systems. 
  • Must be able to work without supervision and always looking to develop procedures through continuous improvement.
  • Must have knowledge of control systems for generator synchronization including ABB and Schneider.
  • Ability to work with high voltage equipment and display clear understanding of power plant operations.
  • Ability to detect electrical operating defects and faults.
  • Knowledge of electrical terminology, Bill of Materials (cable sizes, cable types, connectors etc.,) and understanding, interpreting of electrical distribution drawings for power distribution. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, both verbally and in writing.
  • Thorough knowledge of the common practices, tools, terminology and safety precautions of the Generator Mechanical trade.
  • Ability to prioritize, plan and supervise the work of subordinates.
  • Must hold a valid Home Country driver`s license and be able to obtain and maintain an appropriate MFO driving license.
  • Good command of both written and spoken English. 
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite and knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning tools.

Education and Experience:

  • Must hold a recognised qualification in mechanical or electrical engineering from home country. 
  • 10+ years’ experience within the service industry involving power generation and distribution including repair, fault finding, planned maintenance, load testing and use, and/or in power generation and control systems, transformers, breakers switchgear Medium-High voltage 6.3KVA-22KVA
  • 3+ years supervisory experience of a multi-skilled power generation team or similar.  

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position carries an annual total salary of USD70,885 gross.
  • A two-year, renewable, unaccompanied-status contract including free housing, meals, worldwide health insurance and recreational facilities is offered. May be eligible for tax free status.
  • Any appointment/extension of appointment is subject to the MFO HR Directives and other relevant internal rules. Any offer of employment with the MFO is conditional upon certification by the MFO Medical Adviser that the person concerned is medically fit to perform the specific inherent requirements of the position offered. To confirm an offer from the MFO the successful candidate will be required to undergo a medical examination.
  • Any extension of employment contracts is subject to various elements including the following:  continuing need of the functions and satisfactory conduct and performance.
