Functional Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of the UNOPS Senior Programme Manager, the incumbent works under the guidance of the Chief Infrastructure and Operations Section in the UNGSC and will report to Information Systems Officer or his/her designate and is responsible for the following duties:

Summary of Key Functions 

  1. Linux and Virtualization Support
  2. IT Infrastructure and Backup
  3. Technical Support
  4. Knowledge Management and Coordination

1.      Linux and Virtualization Support:

  1. Maintain Linux server infrastructure that support ERP mission critical application. 
  2. Maintain virtualization platform infrastructure and provide support to customers.
  3. Support infrastructure deployments using Infrastructure as a Code solutions and framework using Terraform.

2.      IT infrastructure and Backup

  1. Maintain and operate IT infrastructure hardware components like: servers, storage, SAN switches, etc that support ERP mission critical application. 
  2. Maintain and operate backup software and infrastructure that support ERP mission critical application.
  3. Participate in the design, configuration, operation and maintenance of secure and scalable enterprise infrastructure.
  4. Propose and review best practices and recommendation on ERP mission critical application.
  5. Document installation and configuration standards for ERP mission critical application.

3.      Technical Support

  1. Develop scripts for operation process automation based on systems engineering and configuration management frameworks.
  2. Act as technical resource on deployment projects, including hands-on configuration of complex components.
  3. Contribute to solve complex problems related to IT infrastructure.
  4. Provide regular, clear, and consistent communication (written and oral) on the status of projects, issues, and deliverables to representatives from the customer.
  5. Participate in on-call rotation which may include afternoon working hours shift.
4. Knowledge Management and Coordination:
  1. Continually explore, evaluate and recommend advanced technologies to provide higher quality service, scalability and modern architectural standards.
  2. Act as a focal point for coordination of activities within the scope of the IT infrastructure support for UN ERP systems.
  3. Be able to lead other team member on dealing with complex problems and escalations.
Perform other duties as may be reasonably required and in line with the incumbent’s scope of services above.

Impact of Results

The result of work of the ICT Associate – Systems Infrastructure impacts directly on delivery of services that satisfy the requirements of the Department as well as the performance of the services implemented in the DPO and Peace Keeping and Special Political Missions and headquarters. It will also ensure proper processes and methodologies are followed and implemented according to the latest of the industry standards. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring activities for all global locations are in line with the overall business targets and UN policies, rules and regulations. 




Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education:
  • Advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) with no relevant experience is desirable; OR 
  • First-level university degree (undergraduate, Bachelor, or equivalent), preferably in computer science, or any related field, with two (2) years of relevant experience, will be considered an asset; OR
  • Secondary school diploma (or high school equivalent) and six (6) years of relevant experience are required.
Experience:

Required experience:

  • Relevant experience is defined as experience in the field of information technology and/or telecommunications and systems, preferably in an international environment.
  • 5 years of experience with Linux technologies and their use in delivering secure, highly available, mission critical enterprise-class solutions
  • 5 years of experience with virtualization and related technologies in complex and multilocation environments (e.g. VMware, vSphere replication, VMware SRM, etc).
  • Experience operating high performance IT infrastructure supporting mission critical applications.
Desirable: (The following experience is optional. Candidates who do not have it are welcome to apply)
  • Experience supporting multi location enterprise grade data center is desirable. 
Language Requirements:
  • Fluency in English (read, write, speak) is required. 
  • Knowledge of another United Nations official language is an asset.
