Contract Duration: For initial appointments, the Court offers a two-year appointment with the possibility of extension (six month probationary period).

A roster of suitable candidates may be established for this post as a result of this selection process for fixed-term appointments against both established posts and positions funded by general temporary assistance (GTA).

Important:

Recruitment for this post in the General Service category is done on a local basis. As a result, staff are generally recruited from the area in which the particular office is located but could be of any nationality.  Candidates applying to a post in the General Services category shall meet the relevant employment and immigration requirements in the country of the duty station, including fulfilling residence and work permit conditions.

Applicants will be responsible for any expenses incurred in relation to: visa, travel to and from, and relocation to and from the duty station, in the event of an employment offer.

A staff member in the General Service category who has been locally recruited shall not be eligible for the entitlements and/or benefits exclusively applicable to internationally recruited staff.

Organisational Context

The Division of Judicial Services (DJS) consists of the Office of the Director DJS (OD DJS), the Court Management Section (CMS), the Detention Section (DS), the Language Services Section (LSS), the Victims Participation and Reparations Section (VPRS), the Information Management Services Section (IMSS), the Counsel Support Section (CSS), the Office of Public Counsel for the Defence (OPCD) and the Office of Public Counsel for Victims (OPCV).

The Detention Section (DS) provides safe, secure and humane conditions for persons detained by the Court while awaiting trial or pending appeal. The Section ensures compliance with international standards and conditions of detention, and strives to be a model of good practice. Its overall objective is to ensure a physically and mentally healthy environment for detained persons at every stage of detention, from their initial transfer to the Court until they are either released on the Court’s order or transferred to a State of enforcement to serve a sentence.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide secretarial and administrative support to ensure the efficiency of the Unit, including the ordering of supplies and the coordination of meetings and appointments;
  • Take minutes at meetings, revise draft documents, and draft routine correspondence as required;
  • Create filing system and organise and file documents;
  • Maintain correspondence logs on subjects dealt with, indicating status, required follow-up and completion of matter;
  • Assist in making travel arrangements including the preparation and post-processing of duty-related travel;
  • Perform other duties as required.

Duties will be performed at the ICC detention centre.

Essential Qualifications

Education:

Diploma of secondary education.

Experience:

  • At least six years of clerical and administrative work. An advanced or a first-level university degree may be considered as a substitute for two years' working experience only to determine eligibility.
  • International experience is desirable.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Excellent organisational and communication skills including drafting ability and knowledge of relevant computer software.
  • Absolute tact, sensitivity, good judgement loyalty and discretion particularly in handling sensitive or confidential information.

Knowledge of languages:

Proficiency in one of the working languages of the Court, English or French, is required. Working knowledge of the other is highly desirable. Knowledge of another official language of the Court (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish) would be considered an asset.
