Overview of position
  • With an aim to enhancing climate resilience & to foster sustainable peace & development in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), our client, with funding support from the government of the United Kingdom, is currently implementing a project “transformative approach to strengthening climate resilience, peace & human mobility”. The project seeks to promote integrated, informed policies & programs to mitigate the compounded risks of climate, conflict & their effects on human mobility. It also aims to reduce the vulnerabilities of the communities in the region to climate & conflict induced challenges to human mobility, particularly trafficking. 

  • This program will be implemented through their Zamboanga satellite office, with direct technical guidance from the peace, transition & recovery unit (sub unit migration, environment & climate change).

  • To facilitate field implementation & coordination in the target communities, our client intends to hire one Field Assistant to be deployed in the Tawi Tawi province. The Field Assistant will support the program in ensuring the timely delivery of program services & community engagement at the field level, supporting target CBO / cooperatives (youths, women, former combatants & indigenous peoples) on climate smart & conflict resilient livelihood strategies, community consultations, assessments & facilitating the livelihood kits suited to the area's climate conflict context. The Field Assistant will also support the team in implementing activities, reducing the risks of TIP & encouraging communities to adopt safe migration practices in the target climate & conflict vulnerable communities.

  • Under the overall supervision of the  Head of the Satellite Office in Zamboanga city, with direct technical supervision of the Migration, Environment & Climate Change Project Assistant & field operational supervision of the Area Coordinator, the selected candidate will be responsible & accountable for the field coordination & implementation of the organizations' relevant peacebuilding & socioeconomic programs in her / his area of responsibility in line with our clients policies, standards & commitments.

Role objectives
    • Closely work with the project team in Zamboanga to facilitate the preparations & implementation of field activities, events, assessments & administrative support as needed.

    • Collect data & other information relevant to our client, their programs & report to the supervisors accordingly.

    • Assist in ensuring the application of do no harm & conflict sensitive delivery of project services across all field activities, including coordination, data collection & assessments, capacity building & provision of livelihood support.

    • Facilitate meetings with counterparts & act as Interpreter in the exchange of information & on the occasion of official meetings.

    • Conduct regular field visits & participate in internal & external coordination meetings.

    • Submit regular reports & relevant project documents, including human interest stories, to the supervisors in a timely manner.

    • Assist in the day to day operational, administrative & logistical activities as required, including preparation of reports, organization of meetings & assistance to field missions of authorized personnel, including our clients staff, donors & relevant stakeholders.

    • Provide regular updates on the context, community situations, security issues & other significant events in the areas of responsibility.

    • Keep regular contact & coordinate activities with local authorities, implementing partners & target communities as requested by supervisors.

    • Assist in monitoring the progress of project activities in the areas of responsibility.

    • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

    Project reporting

    This role will work under the overall supervision of the  Head of the Satellite Office in Zamboanga city, with direct technical supervision of the Migration, Environment & Climate Change Project Assistant & field operational supervision of the Area Coordinator.

    Key competencies
    • Bachelor’s degree in development studies, political or social science, social work, community development, peace & development, agricultural extension, marketing or business / social enterprise development or a related field from an accredited academic institution with three years of relevant professional experience.

    • Experience in humanitarian, development & / or peacebuilding projects, an advantage.

    • Experience working with the island provinces of BARMM & the Zamboanga peninsula is preferred.

    • Extensive fieldwork with counterparts from the government, international organizations & / or other international & a national NGOs is an asset.

    • Experience in the usage of office software like Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.

    • Fluency in Filipino & English is required.

    • Conversant on BARMM languages is advantage.
