BACKGROUND: Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee is a leading, non-sectarian, non-profit organization providing emergency relief, protection, rehabilitation assistance, resettlement services, and advocacy for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict.Domestically, our 29 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.

SCOPE OF WORK: Work with the operations team by providing administrative and operational support within the Charlottesville office. Assist with administrative tasks, operational tasks, and various other related duties. Help provide occasional Front Desk coverage for the reception desk, greet and direct client walk-ins, answer the main telephone line, and direct incoming calls as appropriate. Provide additional clerical assistance and support to IRC staff in the office. This is an in-person position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Liaise with office and equipment maintenance providers and other external parties as needed to support office operations.

•Manage staff assets and coordinate with the Operations Coordinator to ensure staff is provided necessary equipment and supplies

•Assist with IT issues as they arise, with the support of the Operations Coordinator

•Ensure accuracy and assist with inventory counts

•Weekly check of safety and security within the office

•Help provide occasional front desk coverage

•Assist with planning and coordinating office events and meetings

•Record hours and submit completed timesheet for each month via the IRC’s online Volunteer Dashboard.

Minimum Qualifications:

•   Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree or recent graduate.

•   Ability to effectively communicate in a cross-cultural environment

•   Attention to detail, critical thinking skills, time management skills, and ability to work independently and part of a team

•   Detail-oriented, organized, and reliable

•   Comfortable taking leadership role as appropriate

•   Experience with Microsoft Office Suite

•   While a personal vehicle is not required, it would be helpful on occasion.

This position is unpaid and reports to the Operations Coordinator.
