Research Assistant, Nutritionist The International Potato Center (CIP) is seeking to recruit one (1) dynamic and experienced Research Assistant, Nutritionist to provide support in the implementation of the “Integration of Orange-fleshed Sweetpotato (OFSP) Value Chain Development” into MIONJO project in Madagascar.
The Position: The selected candidate will be based in Toliara, he/she will report to the Project Manager. Key Responsibilities:
- Strengthen nutrition intervention delivery and mainstream sweetpotato nutritional value across sectors (health, agriculture, education, etc.).
- Develop training materials on OFSP processing, focusing on micronutrient retention.
- Support small and medium processing enterprises in implementing good hygiene practices.
- Train enterprises on OFSP processing equipment use.
- Assist with designing and setting up processing equipment and quality control systems.
- Conduct and document experiments for internal discussions and studies.
- Lead nutrition awareness campaigns with national/regional offices and NGOs.
- Provide technical support for food availability, acceptability, and consumption studies.
- Supervise research activities to ensure data quality.
- Contribute to advocacy materials, food guides, and media strategies on health benefits.
- Support administrative operations for effective supply chain management.
- Conduct first-level analysis of nutrition-related data.
- Develop new strategies and protocols for project activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned, considering risk management in tasks.
Selection Criteria
- Bachelor’s in degree Nutrition, Food Science, Biology, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience, including in emergency interventions and challenging conditions.
- Advanced MS Office skills: statistical analysis and database management preferred.
- Proficiency in French and Malagasy; working knowledge of English.
- Experience in food technology, quality management, and product formulation.
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Knowledge of legal regulations on nutrition and food safety.
- Proven ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders and manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.Why should you consider this opportunity?
