About IRRI

Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.
Job Purpose

The Rice Breeding Innovations (RBI) Department has a significant number of events and initiatives that need the support of a communications specialist. These tasks include creating an overall communication strategy for the department, maintaining its webpage, coordinating the newsletter, covering internal and external events (photo and video), and preparing content for various communication channels highlighting RBI's work. The selected candidate will provide communication support for RBI and will work with IRRI’s Communication team to ensure that all of these outputs are aligned with IRRI’s communication guidelines and strategy.

This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines, and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and coordinate the execution of RBI’s communication plan.
  • Write and edit content for communication collaterals (e.g., articles, video scripts, press releases, brochures, etc.) for RBI that can be used in multiple channels ensuring adherence to IRRI publication and style guidelines.
  • Develop content, graphic design, and layout for RBI website and newsletter.
  • Provide strategic and tactical support in the planning and organization of RBI-related events and engagements.
  • Deliver other communication assignments delegated by the Communications Unit.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Development Communication, Journalism, or related field with a minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience or
  • Master’s degree in Communication, Development Communication, Journalism, or related field with 2 years of relevant work experience

Mandatory

  • Experience in developing communication products
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, expertise in Science Communication
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence others
  • Experience in packaging communication collaterals that are applicable across multiple mediums or channels
  • Experience in client/account management
  • Strong project management skills
  • Knowledge of the communication landscape
