Mission and objectives

Under the leadership of the UN Resident Coordinator (RC), who leads the UN Country Team (UNCT) in Georgia and coordinates all UN operations at the country level, the UN Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) provides strategic coordination support to the UNCT. Its purpose is to maximize the work of the United Nations so that the system can provide a collective, co-herent and integrated response to national priorities and needs, within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Context

UNV would work closely with the team of the UN RC Office in Georgia, supporting its five key functions: (1) strategic planning; (2) development economics; (3) partnerships and SDG financing; (4) data, and results management and reporting; and (5) communications and advocacy. The RCO supports the Resident Coordinator’s leadership of the UN Country Team through the provision of strategic policy, programmatic and operational advice on the above-mentioned areas, as well as any other area relevant for inter-agency coordination with the objective of fostering the UN reform at the country level. UNV’s specific contribution and learning opportunities would be adjusted based on the candidate’s profile and aspirations, while ensuring exposure and participation in all aspects of RCO’s work and direct engagement with a wide range of UN-internal and external stakeholders.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the Head of UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Georgia, the UN Volunteer would undertake the following tasks:
• Support in coordination of the UN Country Team mechanisms to support the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Coordination Framework (UNSDCF), in particular with respect to assistance to conflict-affected communities across Georgia, including in Abkhazia
• Assisting in coordination of UNCT efforts on Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA)
• Assist in communication activities, including social media management and data visualization support
• Contribute to the implementation of UNCT data strategy, including support in coordination of specific activities to improve availability and quality of data for SDG implementation
• Assist in the oversight of UN joint programmes implemented in Georgia, including facilitation of meetings, proposal drafting and reporting
• Assist in data collection and analysis for the Common Country Analysis updates
• Support activities to support aid effectiveness and coordination, including regular updates of the UNCT Georgia Funding Framework and other partnership and resource mobilization datasets
