Functional Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of UNOPS Senior Programme Manager or designated person, the incumbent works under the guidance Chief Geospatial Information Section or  appointed person, with delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible to perform following tasks:

1. Data Functions:
  • Perform raster data processing;
  • Perform vector data edition;
  • Maintain geodatabase and catalogue of imagery post-processed derivative works.
2. GIS Functions: 
  • Perform analysis based on a variety of sources such as satellite imagery, aerial photograph, geospatial information, internal memos and reports, open source intelligence and others;
  • Perform day-to-day liaison work with clients to understand and articulate short and medium term requirements;
  • Develop innovative geospatial products and visuals to convey the results of the analysis; 
  • Conduct peer-review and quality control of GIS and imagery products prepared by other colleagues.

Impact of Results
The result of work of the ICT Senior Officer - Geospatial Information Systems (Image Analyst) impacts on directly on delivery of services that satisfy the requirements of the Section as well as the performance of the services implemented. It will also ensure proper processes and methodologies are followed and implemented according to the latest of the industry standards. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring activities for all global locations are in line with the overall business targets and UN policies, rules and regulations.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education
  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) preferably in Cartography, Geography, Geospatial Information Systems (GIS), or related fields to the post description with two (2) years of relevant experience is required.
  • A first level university degree (undergraduate, Bachelor, or equivalent), with four (4) years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience 

Required:

  • Relevant experience is defined as experience in GIS, Remote Sensing, Imagery analysis, geospatial analysis or related fields. 
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience with ArcGIS Desktop (v10), QGIS ERDAS Imagine, relational databases (MS SQL Server). 
  • A minimum of two (2) years of professional experience working in a GIS environment for digital cartography. 
  • A minimum of one (1) year of professional experience in statistical analysis using enterprise office software (e.g. MS excel, MS Access) 
 
Desirable (the following experience is optional. Candidates who do not have it are welcome to apply)

  • Python scripting, preferably in ARCGIS and/or QGIS environment.
  • Infographic and Graphics experience using enterprise graphics software (e.g. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop).
  • Basic graphics software skills (e.g Adobe Suite) to prepare final touches of the digital cartography prepared in a GIS environment.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
Language Requirements:
  • For this job opening, fluency in English (speak, write, read) is required.
  • Knowledge of another UN official language is an asset.
