Description: R&P Interns assist with The Department of State’s Reception and Placement program, which supports refugees through their ninety days of arrival by providing services to achieve self-sufficiency. Interns will have the opportunity to gain greater insight into the resettlement process in the Dallas area. IRC places a strong focus on hiring from our intern pool- if you are eager to break into international relations, political science, or are looking for nonprofit experience, this internship is for you. This position is client-facing.
The intern's primary points of contact will be both the Resettlement Supervisor and Housing and Logistics Coordinator.
Major
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but
are not limited to:
Receiving clients at the airport and transporting them and their belongings to their place of residence
Assisting refugees with applying for a Social Security card
Registering children in school
Teaching clients how to access shopping facilities and become oriented with their community
Connecting clients with needed social and language services, such as ESL Classes, Food Stamps, Medicaid, and WIC
Arranging temporary and permanent housing by retrieving household supplies, such as cleaning supplies, kitchen supplies, bedding, etc.
Arranging utility hook-ups for permanent housing
Facilitating lease signings for newly arrived clients and providing housing orientations
Conducting home safety inspections
Assisting with documentation outlined by R&P program
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Requirements:
Must be willing to use the
personal vehicle to pick up clients and client goods and interns qualify for
mileage reimbursement. Ability to lift 50 lbs. Interns must work at least 15
hours within the 8:30 am - 4:30 pm workday, but interns can set their schedule.
Working
Environment:
A combination of standard office environment and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.
