Overview
Jhpiego Botswana seeks a Private Sector Engagement and Partnerships Officer for the newly awarded USAID-funded Comprehensive Community Prevention and Continuum of Care (C4) Program – Project Connect in Botswana. As the technical assistance provider, Jhpiego will strengthen civil society organizations (CSOs) to be able to deliver quality HIV and social services. Jhpiego will also partner with the Government of Botswana (GOB), particularly ministries at the national level and district government offices to prioritize and strengthen their leadership capacity, coordination of orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and gender-based violence (GBV) response strategies, and monitoring. The initial period of performance is two years with the possibility of three-one-year renewal periods.
Responsibilities
The Private Sector Engagement and Partnership Officer will be responsible for providing expertise and guidance in all results areas on special considerations for engaging the private sector in planning, design, and implementation of intervention areas. The position will stimulate private sector-led solutions and foster public-private collaborations that contribute to improved access to health and social services. As a member of the program’s team, the position will be responsible for cultivating strategic relationships and alliances for the project with Government Ministries, CSOs, Media, Academia and Private Sector in Botswana. This is a dynamic and highly visible role utilizing creative marketing skills and strategies. The selected candidate will directly report to the Capacity Strengthening and Partnerships Advisor.
Private Sector Engagement
- Identify, design, and implement strategies and program activities to deepen private sector engagement with key market systems actors in priority value chains and supporting sectors and services, with an emphasis on improving delivery of health and social services.
- Provide technical assistance and capacity building to the Project Connect stakeholders to structure collaborations between the public and private sectors
- Lead and/or oversee discrete and ongoing technical services to enhance application of private sector engagement approaches and foster partnerships collaboratively with project teams. This includes initial startup staff trainings, conducting private sector landscape assessments, assisting project teams with co-creation and co-design, helping teams manage for partnership health.
- Advise government ministries and local partners on effective approaches for collaborating with the private sector.
- Gather evidence, lessons learned, and technical innovations of the activity to enhance the activity’s private sector engagement approach.
- Lead the preparation of reports and knowledge products related to private sector engagement in the delivery of health and social services
- Support the coordination of webinars and events related to PSE under the project
Partnership Management
- Engage partners (donors, government, local and international NGOs, and other stakeholders) and whole of market in defining health service delivery and creating local solutions, appropriately utilizing their varied expertise and perspectives
- Identify partnerships opportunities to leverage public or private sector resources to support delivery of health solutions developed through a co-creation process
- Develop and execute plans and strategies for each partnership to achieve agreed objective
- Support development and capacity-building of local organizations
- Ensure that all project activities are coordinated effectively and are well-integrated within the overall project workplan
- Develop and maintain excellent relationships with colleagues, partners, and donors
- Keep project leadership and stakeholders informed of successes, challenges, and lessons learned; working with project leadership, ensure smooth implementation of all project activities and monitor financial and contractual obligations
Required Qualifications
- Advanced Degree in Strategic Management, business, marketing, public relations, or a related field
- Proven depth and breadth of technical and management expertise and experience
- 7+ years of mid to senior level experience as project manager or equivalent
- Previous experience working with PEPFAR funded projects
- Experience in community interventions
- Familiarity with Botswana health system and demonstrated ability working with government health programs, stakeholders, and systems
- Strong ability to work and communicate within team members
- Demonstrated excellence in oral and written English
- Ability to work independently and to exercise independent judgment
- Ability to ensure adherence to applicable laws and regulations
- Demonstrated ability to exercise confidentiality and professionalism
- Microsoft Office computer skills, proficiency in Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook
- Willingness and flexibility to work on a wide range of tasks
