The Borlaug Institute for South Asia (BISA) is a nonprofit international research institute dedicated to food, nutrition, livelihood security, and environmental rehabilitation in South Asia, home to more than 300 million undernourished people. We seek dynamic, innovative, and self-motivated professionals specialising in WebGIS development. This will be Nationally/Locally Recruited Positions to work within BISA-CIMMYT.

We expect the person to contribute the work on developing a WEBGIS application related to climate risk management.

The positions will be based in New Delhi, India.

Specific duties:

  • To develop and maintain web GIS applications focused on spatial analysis and real-time data processing.
  • Assist in training programs in South Asia on the above topics and assist in transferring the website to the servers of partner organisations.
  • Document results for reports, blogs, and journal publications.
  • Contribute to the other activities as assigned by the supervisor.
  • A bachelor’s degree in IT/ software/engineering/remote sensing/related areas.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining web GIS applications focused on spatial analysis and real-time data processing is desirable.
  • Use of React, Node.js and JavaScript to build user-friendly interfaces and dynamic data visualizations.
  • Proficiency in Python, R or MATLAB for data handling is desirable.
  • The role will involve integrating spatial analysis and mapping with Open Layers, Leaflet or any other suitable library, handling spatial files (TIFF, shapefile, GeoJSON), and ensuring our platforms are efficient and scalable.

The position is for an initial fixed-term contract of 1 year, after which further employment is subject to performance and the continued availability of funds. Consultancy position on deliverable basis for varying periods can also be considered. BISA offers an attractive remuneration package with various benefits, including health insurance.
