UNICEF Tajikistan is looking for data analysis and visualization intern to support the planning and implementation of various programmatic interventions aimed at strengthening the national child rights monitoring tools, mechanisms and systems.

UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

For every child,

The fundamental mission of UNICEF is to promote the rights of every child, everywhere, in everything the organization does — in programs, in advocacy and in operations. The equity strategy, emphasizing the most disadvantaged and excluded children and families, translates this commitment to children’s rights into action. For UNICEF, equity means that all children have an opportunity to survive, develop and reach their full potential, without discrimination, bias or favoritism. To the degree that any child has an unequal chance in life — in its social, political, economic, civic and cultural dimensions — her or his rights are violated. There is growing evidence that investing in the health, education and protection of a society’s most disadvantaged citizens — addressing inequity — not only will give all children the opportunity to fulfill their potential but also will lead to sustained growth and stability of countries. This is why the focus on equity is so vital. It accelerates progress towards realizing the human rights of all children, which is the universal mandate of UNICEF, as outlined by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, while also supporting the equitable development of nations.

Data hold more potential than ever before to shape the lives and living conditions of children. Much of that potential is the result of the rapid expansion of data sources and uses. UNICEF work on data for children centers around a fundamental belief: strategic and informed use of data leads to improved outcomes for children. When the right data are in the right hands at the right time, decisions can be better informed, more equitable, and more likely to protect children’s rights. Effective use of data can help us not just track results for children, but also shape those results with better insights about what’s working, what’s not, which children are thriving and which are being left behind.

UNICEF places a high priority on the availability of recent and reliable information for monitoring the situation of children, young people and families, for developing evidence-based policies and programmes.
In its latest Concluding Observations to Tajikistan, the CRC emphasized that data concerning all persons under 18 are essential to analyse the children’s situation and design targeted policies. It also recommended that the data collected and generated from the State party’s Statistics Agency be disaggregated, inter alia, by age, sex, geographic location, ethnicity, and socio-economic background and is effectively used to inform policy makers, and that efforts be made to increase the capacity of the governmental agencies to analyze the data.
