Office/Unit/Project Description 
 
As the United Nations' lead agency on international development, UNDP works in 170 countries and territories to eradicate poverty and reduce inequality. We help countries develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, and institutional capabilities and build resilience to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Our work focuses on three areas: sustainable development, democratic governance and peacebuilding, and climate and disaster resilience.
 
The UNDP Representation Office in Geneva works across programmatic and representational functions. It contributes to UNDP’s mission by engaging and forging partnerships with a wide range of partners to support the attainment of the SDGs and leading donor relations with top donors to secure UNDP resource mobilization.
 
The Communication Units of UNDP’s Representation Office in Geneva seeks a Digital Communications and Event Analyst to support digital communication, event management, and partnerships.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Digital Communications and Event Analyst, under the supervision of the UNDP Geneva Communication Specialist, will be responsible for:
 
Provision of guidance for UNDP Geneva digital work: 
  • With the guidance of the Communication specialist, draft content and support the maintenance of relevant webpages of the UNDP Geneva website, including stories, event page and blog.
  • Support the weekly production of, and post after clearance, content for UNDP Geneva X account; prepare suggestions for the LinkedIn account of senior management; prepare a suggestion to amplify posts from UNDP, UN agencies and relevant accounts.
  • Monitor and amplify relevant digital stories related to cooperation between UNDP and the French and Swiss stakeholders.

Provision of guidance and support for the Advocacy events: 

  • Provide support in desk research and substantive framing of the events, liaising with relevant internal departments and under the supervision of the Communication and Partnership Specialists.
  • Develop the concept for advocacy events, including a detailed brief about the focus of each event (work plan, run of show, list of partners, list of assets (videos)).
  • Identify prospective partners who can contribute to the event in terms of content, network, and/or financial contributions through desk research and with the guidance of the communication specialist for each event; set up meetings with the prospective partners.
  • Serve as a primary focal point for the logistical organisation of the events, e.g. on the occasion of missions of UNDP Regional Directors or other senior management officials in Geneva, coordinating with relevant stakeholders under the supervision of the Partnership and Communication Specialists.
  • Establish contact lists, dispatch invitations, and follow up with relevant partners and invitees (other UN agencies, NGOs, diplomatic missions) to ensure large participation in UNDP events. 
  • Registration management: Create the registration form for the events, supervise registration for the events, and proactively build the contact database to reach 500 contacts throughout the contract. 
  • Deliver on administrative tasks (e.g. security arrangements, registration, protocol support and coordination with other stakeholders and UN agencies) and perform other duties, as required.
  • Marketing: With the guidance of the Communication specialist, develop “communication kits” including digital banners, Save the Date, reminders, social media kits, and press releases.
  • Logistical support/webcasts: Liaise with the production team, the streaming partner and the conference team to set up webcasts of high quality.

Facilitate knowledge and capacity building, knowledge sharing: 

  • Organizse training, workshops, and capacity building activities in a consultative manner, involving technical experts and stakeholders that may include the government, private sector, NGOs, donors, and/or academia.
  • Identify, synthesize and document best practices and lessons learned that are generated from the project and implementing partners.

The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization

The Digital Communications and Event Analyst will work under the direct supervision of the UNDP Geneva Communication Specialist.

 Required Skills and Experience
Min. Academic Education
  • Advanced University Degree (Master’s or equivalent) in communication, international relations, or related area is required; or
  • A first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in above stated area, in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience will be given due consideration in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Min. years of relevant Work experience 
  • Applicants with Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field of study are not required to have professional work experience. Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) are required to have a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience at the national or international level in communications or public relations.
Required  skills and competencies
  • Experience in editing and development English material for the web, drafting content for Twitter (in English), a requirement.
  • Experience with organizational, planning and time management skills, attention toanization is a requirement.
Desired additional skills and competencies
  • Experience in online communication and social media is desired.  
  • Professional experience within the UNDP or  United Nations System, demonstrating a basic understanding of a multilateral organization environment, is an asset.
  • Proven records of Team work orientation, evident cultural sensitivity and ability to work in a fast-paced multi-national environment is an asset. 
Required Language(s) (at working level)
  • Fluency in  English is required.
  • Working knowledge of another UN language, especially in French,        is a strong asset.
