Overview of position

UNICEF scaled up intervention in 2023- 24 to address high burden of acute malnutrition in West Region. The scaled up also included hiring of additional staff for HFs/ and TFUs with HR gaps to support OPD- SAM and IPD SAM services. UNICEF will hire additional staff through LTA holder to fill the critical HR gaps. The objective of hiring of additional staff is to detect, refer, and treat more acutely malnourished children in HFs with high caseload to prevent mortality. To achieve the results, UNICEF will opt for services LTA holder. The services of LTA holder will be required to process their monthly salary payment for smooth implementation of program.

Objective: To improve the uptake of nutrition services at health facilities with high caseload of malnourished cases at Herat Reference to the WP: Output 4 Result Statement: Government and other partners have increased capacity at the national and sub-national levels for humanitarian coordination and delivery of quality nutrition services, and emergency services are delivered, in line with the CCCs and international standards. Key Intervention: Tech Assistance SAM-IMAM Activity: Support Nutrition urban project (malnutrition treatment and prevention in day care centres and urban HFs). 

Role objectives

• Responsible for management of SAM children (OPDSAM and IPD SAM).

• Diagnosis, treatment of the SAM patients with medical complication as per the national IMAM guidelines.

• Checking for all IMNCI danger sign and performance of physical examination for admitted SAM children.

• Provide nursing care to inpatient SAM children and prepare milk preparation (F75 and F100) as per standard IMAM guideline.

• Ensure proper recording keeping at clinics and report data weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis as per standard reporting format.

• Proper stock management and updating of stock cards and RUTF supply management.

• Regular conduct sessions and provide health and nutrition education to mothers and care takers of SAM children.

Project reporting

This role reports to the Zonal Nutrition officers and CTG Account Manager

Key competencies

• Diploma in Nursing/midwifery or equivalent or higher.

• Having 2 years of relevant work experience in the provision of Nutrition services after graduation.

• Having team management skills.

• Pashto language and familiarity with Dari

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work and deal successfully in a multicultural environment.

• Being patient, maintaining a positive attitude and having the ability to work in crisis situations.

• Problem solving skills.

This role has no team management responsibility.
