OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

Under the overall authority of the Senior Executive Officer of the Sector for Administration and Management (ADM/EO) and the direct supervision of the Disability Inclusion and Accessibility Officer, the Disability Inclusion and Accessibility Associate, will support the implementation and monitoring of accessibility initiatives across the organization. This role is essential in ensuring that all organizational processes, environments, and programs are inclusive of persons with disabilities, in alignment with UNESCO’s broader commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Key responsibilities include:

 

- Support and Coordination:

  • Assist in coordinating and implementing disability inclusion and accessibility initiatives in the organization.
  • Assist in organizing meetings, workshops, and other events related to disability inclusion.
  • Support developing and disseminating disability inclusion policies, accessibility guidelines, and tools.

- Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Monitor the progress of disability inclusion and accessibility initiatives and contribute to regular reporting.

  • Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of programs and recommending improvements.

- Capacity Building and Training:

  • Assist in organizing and delivering training sessions and workshops on disability inclusion.

  • Contribute to the development of capacity-building materials and resources.

- Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including disability rights organizations, to foster partnerships and collaboration.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

A university degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, disability studies, human rights, Social Sciences, Public Policy, or a related field, with demonstrated coursework or experience in disability inclusion or accessibility.

Work Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience focusing on disability inclusion and accessibility.
  • Proven experience in preparing detailed reports, concept notes, policies, and training materials, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, concise, and well-structured documents.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong project management and coordination skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, focusing on disability advocacy.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management software.

Languages:

Excellent knowledge of English and/or French and good knowledge of the other.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Work Experience:

  • Previous experience working with UNESCO or a similar international organization.
  • Familiarity with development and inclusion issues.

Languages:

  • Knowledge of another UN official language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Spanish).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Eligibility to Work in France:

Candidates should be eligible to work in France at the time of application and for the expected duration of the Service Contract.

The remuneration paid to the Service Contract holder is not exempt from any income taxes levied by the French tax authorities. The Service Contract holder is affiliated with the French social security scheme (Régime général de la sécurité sociale et des prestations familiales). Consequently, social contributions will be deducted from the gross remuneration paid by UNESCO.
