Mission and objectives

The Multi-Partner Trust Fund Office (MPTFO) is a UN center of expertise on pooled financing mechanisms. It supports development effectiveness and UN coordination through the efficient, accountable and transparent design and administration of innovative pooled financing mechanisms.

Context

This UNV assignment is part of the MPTFO/ UN Joint SDG Fund’s efforts to accelerate youth engagement which is a critical pillar for the achievement of the SDGs globally. To empower young people and to enable them to become drivers of change, The Joint SDG Fund aims to understand the conditions facing vulnerable, marginalized adolescents. It aims to bring together governments, civil society, donors, the private sector and youth-led organizations to advocate for greater investment in young people as a development priority. The UNV will be responsible for working with the communications team of the Fund in the area of meaningful youth engagement.

Task description

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Head of Communications, Joint SDG Fund, the National Youth Volunteer will:

• Develop a road map for youth engagement for the Joint SDG Fund.
• Support the development of key activities and youth engagement initiatives with the joint programmes (JPs).
• Develop and coordinate partnerships with key organizations such as UN Secretary General’s Envoy on youth office, UNICEF voices of youth, YOUNGO and UNITE 2030.
• Create and coordinate a youth advocacy hub comprising of youth bloggers and content creators to enable youth to develop content for the youth corner of the Fund.
• Develop and organize youth advocacy workshops with the youth advocacy hub and JP interns.
• Develop the Joint programmes internship of the Fund.
• Identify, develop and review of human-interest youth stories and communication assets from the JPs with youth focused programming for publishing on the website and social media channels.
• Organize key youth-led events for the Fund such as the international youth day event, United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) youth SDGs summit and COP-28.
• Create, coordinate, and maintain an active network youth volunteer and partners’ database, organizing regular calls and sharing of information between stakeholders on youth engagement for the SDGs.
• Identify opportunities for development of intergenerational solutions that will contribute to the advancement of the 2030 agenda with youth at the center through the various youth led events such as the UNGA youth SDGs summit.
• Conceptualize and execute the youth SDGs leaders’ program for the Fund.
• Coordinate and liaise with the partner organizations and the joint programmes to organize speakers and experts to engage in the youth SDGs leaders’ program.
• Develop and organize a hackathon for young SDGs leaders with key youth partners for the Fund, the advocacy hub and JP interns.
• Support social media content creation for all youth-related events and initiatives.

In addition to the above, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate UNV's mandate within the framework of their assignment and promote volunteer action through integration into communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate part of their work time to one of the following recommended activities:


• Proven ability in outreach and engagement, and developing, implementing and managing partnerships.
• Capacity to liaise and work collaboratively with partners, networks, government, community and young people.
• Familiarity with using social media platforms.
• Understanding of the United Nations system and/or programmes is an asset.
• Other desired/mandatory required technical knowledge
• Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
• Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing.
• Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
• Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
• Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
• Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
• Sound security awareness;
• Have affinity with or interest in UN Joint SDG Fund’s work, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
