Purpose

Under the supervision of the Quality Assurance Pharmacist (technical line manager), Pharmacist ensures the implementation of good storage and distribution practices (GSDPs) within the Logistics Department and the related quality management system (QMS). S/he also makes sure that the delegation complies with national regulatory requirements and that activities related to domestic purchases of health-care products are carried out according to the relevant procedures.

Accountabilities & Functional responsibilities

  • Ensures and monitors implementation of the QMS for the delegation, in compliance with the current QMS structure.

  • Ensures that good distribution practices (GDPs) are implemented and that health-care products are handled properly so that they remain safe and effective.

  • Ensures the implementation of global, field and site standard operating procedures (SOPs) and other documents related to GSDP processes, including the writing and revision of such documents, training of staff, production of updates and filing.

  • Ensures that the activities of the Logistics Department comply with national legal requirements, and is accountable for the importation, storage and distribution of narcotics and controlled drugs.

  • Supervises and provides technical support to the Quality Assurance Officer in implementing GSDPs and SOPs related to warehouse activities.

  • Identifies potential domestic suppliers of pharmaceuticals or other health-care products and helps assess whether the suppliers comply with GDPs and the products respect relevant legal requirements.

  • Acts as legal representative of the ICRC’s pharmaceutical services before the national drug regulatory authorities.

  • Files and archives any legal documentation.

  • Ensures that risks are mitigated by performing the controls assigned to his/her role as described in the Logistics Risk and Control Matrix

Relationships

  • Internally, interacts with the whole Logistics Department, especially the Quality Assurance Pharmacist (regional), and with staff in the Health Unit and Economic Security Unit.
  • Externally, interacts with suppliers and the national drug regulatory authorities.

Certifications / Education required

  • Pharmacy degree (bachelor’s level).
  • Good command (spoken and written) of English or French.
  • Computer proficiency, including in Microsoft Excel.

Professional Experience required

  • Minimum six years’ experience working in a pharmaceutical company (in quality assurance or production).
