About Avaaz

Avaaz is an international campaigning and advocacy organization that provides its global membership of millions of people with opportunities to make our world a better place. We’re one of the world’s largest online global campaigning movements, with people from every corner of the world taking action to close the gap between the world we have and the world most people everywhere want.

We enable people to channel their voices into a powerful collective force at tipping point moments to impact the pressing global challenges of our time, from climate change to human rights and the dismantling of democracy. Here’s some awesome victories we’ve achieved over the years!

The Avaaz team of about 100 staff is spread across 6 continents, campaigns in 21 languages, and is funded through small donations from individual Avaaz members, no big money from governments or corporations. This keeps us independent and allows us to keep a laser focus on doing what the world needs.

Position Overview

Avaaz is looking for an experienced Performance Marketing Manager to help grow our movement through paid digital and social media advertising. Your main goal will be to develop our Facebook, Instagram and Google advertising strategies, and  identify online advertising opportunities on other social media channels. In short - we want you to lead the work of using paid advertising to attract new members to join our global movement and take action!

As this role represents a new approach to this work for us, the successful candidate will need to be confident leading the work on their own. You will need to be able to coordinate with campaigners across the world, and communicate with multiple teams in a fast paced environment. • Seize opportunities for engagement, employing Meta and Google analytics to refine and scale successful campaigns.
  • Develop and implement a successful growth-focused advertising strategy, with the aim of having low member acquisition costs and high returns.
  • Work with our team of translators to localize and rewrite communications that are tailored for their target audience where appropriate.
  • Work with designers/content creators to tailor our campaigns to the digital ads audience, and draft advertising copy yourself.
  • Contribute to Avaaz’s overarching strategic goals, by offering online advertisement insights and innovations that drive our mission forward.

Experience & Qualifications

The ideal candidate will bring a rich background in digital advertising, marked by a proven track record of paid online campaigns.

Key qualifications and experience we are looking for in this role include:

  • Demonstrated experience in managing digital advertising programmes, especially performance marketing and lead generation.
  • The know-how to extract to the fullest extent from Meta and Google advertising platforms, with a proven track record of successfully crafting, executing, and scaling up paid online advertising.
  • A passion for data, with the skills to track, measure and benchmark campaign performance, adapt strategies, and make recommendations accordingly, especially Google and Meta analytics.
  • Proven project management and briefing skills with an ability to confidently and clearly communicate on complex tasks with all levels of the organisation, and with external partners, agencies and creators.
  • A deep understanding of social media, content creation, and building online communities.
  • Ability to draft engaging advertising copy, and adapt it based on the channel we’re using. An eye for what type of content (image/video etc) works on different platforms.
  • Eagerness to explore new technologies and platforms to enhance campaign effectiveness.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, thriving in a collaborative environment while also capable of independent initiative.
  • Commitment to global justice, citizen empowerment, and social change.
