Functional Responsibilities

The RBM Partnership to End Malaria is seeking a consultant to conduct research on the potential benefits for the private sector stemming from malaria elimination efforts. The consultant will produce knowledge pieces and key messages that will help the RBM Secretariat and the global malaria community to push private sector actors to invest more in the fight against malaria. The consultant will work under the guidance of the Advocacy and Communications Manager and in collaboration with the Advocacy and Resource Mobilization Partner Committee (ARMPC) and Strategic Communications and Advocacy Partner Committee (SCPC). 


Research: The consultant is expected to conduct desk research and produce a report and/or other knowledge pieces on the potential benefits for the private sector stemming from malaria elimination efforts and an advocacy brief with key facts and messages. The consultant is also required to develop a one-year private sector engagement strategy. These products will support malaria advocates within and outside the Partnership to advocate for a world free of malaria and to convince private sector actors to invest more in the fight against malaria. 


Strategy development: Conduct desk research on the potential benefits for the private sector stemming from malaria elimination efforts. Considering the importance of the topic, the consultant will work and coordinate with members of the Partnership, especially with the Advocacy and Resource Mobilization Partner Committee, to develop a common position on the issue and to align messages, especially in light of developing the one-year engagement strategy. 



Monitoring and Progress Controls

Key Deliverables /Measurable Outputs

  • Report:  covering the potential benefits for the private sector stemming from malaria elimination efforts.

  • Advocacy brief:  with key messages to be utilized in meetings, speeches, briefs and analyses.

  • Media tool kit: In collaboration with the Communication Team, develop a media toolkit to be used by the Secretariat and Partners on social media.

  • Report Launch: In collaboration with the Communication Team, organize a launch event for the report and promote the investment case for the private sector. 

  • Private Sector Engagement Strategy: Develop a one-year private sector engagement strategy.

  • Message development: Develop and disseminate knowledge pieces and key messages to influence public thought, key stakeholders, and targeted decision-makers on the potential benefits for the private sector stemming from malaria elimination efforts



Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education 

  • A Master’s degree preferably in advocacy, communication, international relations, journalism, law,  international development, business management, public administration, public health, social science, or another relevant field is required.  

OR

  • A Bachelor’s degree will be accepted with an additional 2 years of relevant experience. 

Work Experience


Required: 
  • Seven (7) years of experience in the global health context, research and Knowledge management, strategy development, and stakeholder engagement and advocacy. 
  • Within the required seven years, four (4) years experience in developing messages for diverse audiences at country, regional, and global levels  to achieve greater impact. 
  • Experience in advocacy and communication around the intersection between the private sector and health  

Desirables:
  • Experience working in a developing country or malaria-endemic country.
  • Experience working remotely and collaborating with personnel located in other geographical locations. 
  • Experience working in the intersection between health and the private sector.


Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in oral and written English is essential. Working knowledge of French is an asset
