Mission and objectives

OCHA's mission is to coordinate the global emergency response to save lives and protect people in humanitarian crises. OCHA advocates for effective and principled humanitarian action by all, for all.

Context

This UNV assignment is part of UNOCHA’s efforts to support the humanitarian community’s response in Yemen, which is the largest humanitarian crisis in the world. Based in the UNOCHA office Aden, Yemen.

Task description

•Under the direct supervision of the senior Humanitarian Affairs Officer / Head of of Sana’a hub, the HAO will be responsible for the following duties:
•Support in monitoring analysing and reporting on humanitarian developments in the hub area ofcoverage, in support to the clusters and RCT.
•Support the collection of information to improve information products such as who does whatwhere database and inter-agency reports.
•Support in liaising with national authorities and humanitarian partners at the sub-national level totriangulate humanitarian information and effectively identify and map humanitarian needs andresponse activities.
•Review and provide advice on policy issues related to safeguarding humanitarian principles andensuring the effective delivery of humanitarian assistance.
•Support in participating in work groups, meetings, conferences, trainings, consultations with otheragencies and partners at the hub level with the aim of improving humanitarian and emergencyrelief-related matters.
•Track information required for early warning of potential humanitarian emergencies and as appropriate promote preparedness measures, including inter-agency contingency planning.
•Prepare briefing materials and presentations providing up-to-date analysis on trends and developments on the humanitarian situation in the country or in specific governorates
•Monitor and analyse access constraints and liaise with the authorities to facilitate humanitarian access for the humanitarian community.
•Support the Yemen Humanitarian Pooled Fund through preparing and carrying out monitoring visits and supporting the development of hub level strategy and priorities with the RCTs.
•As appropriate, help organize and/or participate in coordinated assessment missions to build consensus on humanitarian needs and priorities.
•Develop humanitarian stories and content for the OCHA monthly humanitarian bulletin and other communications and reporting products
•Participates in selected cluster meetings and supports outreach to international and national NGOs
•Maintains a network of local contacts and effective working relationships with various stakeholders among the humanitarian community
•Support capacity building activities for national NGOs
•Perform other duties as required.
