Under the overall supervision of Director, Marine Environment Division (MED), the Deputy Director, Sub-Division for Protective Measures and the immediate supervision of the Head, Climate Action and Clean Air Section, the incumbent will:


1. Assist the Head, Climate Action and Clean Air Section, to prepare for meetings of the MEPC, including preparation of documents, briefs, reports and circulars, in particular regarding air pollution and energy efficiency of ships and reduction of GHG emissions from ships, and act as Secretary to working and/or drafting groups, as required;

2. Provide support for the work of relevant Sub-Committees, in particular the PPR Sub-Committee, concerning prevention of air pollution from ships, and act as Secretary to working and/or drafting groups, as required;

3. Contribute to the work of the Intersessional Working Group on GHG Emissions (ISWG-GHG) established by MEPC to deal with both policy and technical matters related to the reduction of GHG emissions from international shipping and other relevant correspondence groups, including preparation of documents, briefs and reports;

4. Take responsibility for the energy efficiency related provisions of MARPOL Annex VI and the reduction of GHG emissions from shipping in general; and, in particular, those related to alternative fuels and new/innovative emission reduction mechanism(s), including liaison with Member Governments and industry;

5. Take responsibility for the NOX Technical Code in general, including preparation of circulars, oversight and development of GISIS modules for MARPOL Annex VI and Data Collection System as well as Sulphur Monitoring Program;

6. Provide technical support for technical cooperation activities regarding matters related to MARPOL Annex VI and associated instruments, as required;

7. Represent IMO at international, regional and national meetings, workshops and seminars, as appropriate;

8. Prepare IMO reports (e.g. IMO GHG Study) and publications as required; and

9. Undertake other duties as may be assigned by the Head, Climate Action and Clean Air Section, Deputy Director and/or Director of the Division, as appropriate.
