Mission and objectives

The United Nations Security Council in Resolution 2245 adopted on 09 November 2015 established the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS). This replaced the United Nations Support Office for AMISOM (UNSOs), established in 2009. https://unsos.unmissions.org/unsos-mandate. United Nations Security Council Resolution 2245 decided that UNSOS will be responsible for support to AMISOM, UNSOM, the Somali National Army (SNA) and the Somali Police Force (SPF) on joint operations with AMISOM.

Context

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) or his representative, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks at the duty station: • Contribute to writing SOPs on medical supply chain. • Partake to the elaboration of medical goods and services requirements, elaboration of acquisition and demand plans. • Contribute to the development/implementation of smooth processes to foster collaborative interactions between stakeholders on demand planning, drugs and medical consumables resupply calculation. • Participate in technical evaluation of medical goods and services solicitations in collaboration with Procurement Section and other stakeholders. • Assist in the review/follow up of SCs, POs and the receiving and inspection (R&I) of drugs, medical equipment, consumables and medical supplies. • Prepare drugs/boxes and Raising CMRs for shipment of consignments to sectors (blood, oxygen, medical supplies and/or lab specimen collections) • Work with warehouse colleagues to ensure timely review, processing, and delivery of commodity requests. • Participate in processing and documentation of medical commodity requests/issuance in relevant mission platforms i.e. Umoja, FSS, Comindware etc… • Support medical treatment facilities (MTFs) to ensure the safe storage of prescription drugs and controlled substances. • Contribute to promote accountability and transparency on medical stock data and monitor KPIs on inventory management. • Conduct periodic field visits to improve inventory management including ensuring adequate use of medical stocks management tools and performing regular physical inventories. • Carry out pharmacological activities and advise medical officers and other health staff on related side effects of medications, possible drug-drug interactions and ensure ration-al prescription of drugs. • Ensure optimum and rational use of resources including verification of medical assets and regular maintenance of medical equipment while respecting medical ethics. • Participate in the preparation and implementation of Mass Casualty Incidence (MCI) response, medical emergencies, Covid-19 response, and other related public health emergencies including development of emergency stockpiles of pharmaceutical, medical supplies and equipment. Ensure proper emergency medical kit management with regards to expiry date/batch number. • Participate in organizing medical referrals, medical evacuations of mission personnel and repatriation of human remains for ATMIS. • Participate in the provision of health education to civilian mission personnel. • Participate in preparation and delivery of the Integrated Medical Office briefings, presentations. • Participate in addressing environmental and occupational health issues. • Participate in the planning, management and implementation of adequate infection control measures including management of medical wastes in the mission health facilities. • Provide relevant technical support to the facility management team in the mission and contractors providing sanitation and fumigation services at the UN camps within Somalia. • Ensure timely submission of relevant key performance indicators and monthly medical reports to the CMO’s office. • Carry out any other tasks within the mission as may be assigned by the CMO or his designate.
