INTRODUCTION TO GGGI

The GGGI Lao PDR program has been expanding across key areas of climate and sustainability,

including waste, sanitation, water resources, adaptation, energy, mobility, climate governance and carbon markets. As part of this, GGGI Lao PDR’s climate portfolio, handled by the office’s Climate Unit, is expected to continue to grow and innovate over the upcoming years. As GGGI Lao PDR’s climate initiatives continue to develop, the Climate Unit is seeking a motivated and qualified intern to join the team. The intern will play a vital role in supporting the implementation of GGGI’s climate portfolio, contributing to our efforts in creating sustainable and resilient communities.

 

CURRENT OPPORTUNITY

This TOR outlines the responsibilities, qualifications, and opportunities for the intern position within the Climate Unit of GGGI Lao PDR. The role offers a unique chance to contribute to critical climate and sustainability initiatives while gaining valuable experience in the field. The assignment will include the following but not limited to:

  • Support day-to-day administrative functions, including scheduling meetings, managing calendars, processing expense reports, and handling correspondence.
  • Assist in managing office supplies, equipment, and other resources needed for the Climate Unit’s operations.
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and executing workshops, meetings, and training sessions, including venue arrangements, participant coordination, and material preparation.
  • Manage travel logistics for team members and stakeholders, including booking transportation and accommodations, and preparing travel itineraries.
  • Maintain and organize project documents, meeting minutes, reports, and other relevant materials in a systematic and accessible manner.
  • Coordinate communication with stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and other partners, including preparing official letters, invitations, coordination, and communication/follow-up.
  • Support the preparation of draft concept notes, agenda, budget, and speeches, and collecting receipts, technical and financial reports after the event.
  • Support on note taking and preparation of minutes of meetings.
  • Support in Lao – English - Lao translation in both written and oral.
  • Provide other administrative and technical support to the GGGI Lao PDR Country Program as requested.

 

ELIGIBILITY                                         

Applicants to the GGGI internship program must at the time of application meet the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor’s program or Master’s program, or be a recent graduate within the last 12 months.
  • Be engaged or recently engaged in academic study in a field directly related to the Institute’s work.
  • Possess an excellent command of English.

 

QUALIFICATION
  • Enrolled in / recent graduate with a Bachelor or Master degrees in environmental science, environmental management or engineering, economics, international relations, sustainable development, agriculture, forestry, geography or other related fields.
  • Experience/ education on international development or in a field related to the Institute's work;
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English and Lao.

 

SELECTION PROCESS
  • Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
  • GGGI evaluates applications based on: eligibility requirements, relevance of academic study and work experience (if any); and the level of interest and motivation to contribute to development work.
  • Due to the high volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

 

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Duration: The internship program is for at least three months and up to six months. Once selected, interns must begin your internship either prior to or within 12 months of graduation. 

Stipend: GGGI interns receive a monthly stipend of USD $500 per month (unless agreed to be funded by sponsoring institutions). All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by either the interns themselves or sponsoring institutions.  

Visa: GGGI will provide a supporting letter for visa. Interns will be responsible for obtaining and financing the necessary visas.  

Travel: Intern will arrange and finance their travel to the internship location.  

Medical Insurance: Interns must present proof of valid medical insurance to GGGI upon returning the signed internship contract.

Confidentiality: Interns must keep confidential any and all unpublished information obtained during the course of the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information.  

Academic Credit: Interns may get academic credit from their institution of higher education for the internship. Interns need to check with their university to confirm their academic credit policy for internships.  

Working Hours: interns are expected to work during normal working hours. Leave should be pre-approved by the Intern Manager, and the latter should inform the Office of HR accordingly.

Learning Outcomes: before completion of the internship, Intern Managers are expected to review the learning outcomes with the intern.

Certificate: provided upon successful completion of the internship, upon request.
