OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The WHO Western Pacific Region is made up of 37 countries and areas. Serving the diversity of people and health situations requires a solid understanding of the evolving and dynamic social, cultural, economic, epidemiologic and demographic patterns and trends and the development levels of countries and areas in the Region.

The Division of Programme Management provides overall direction and coordination of regional technical cooperation through programme development and operations, country support and editorial services with countries and areas in the Western Pacific Region.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

  1. Analyse and do research on the public health topics to contribute to the development of public health programmes and activities. A
  2. Assist in the monitoring of work plans and budgets including resource mobilization for the work programme and follow up on the implementation of planned activities.
  3. Analyse information on best practices in public health and health systems and report findings to the responsible officer.
  4. Provide support to the SKH programme and consultants by providing inputs on the design and execution of the SKH induction and day-to-day mentoring.
  5. Contribute to the capacity-building of personnel from the Regional Office and country offices, to utilize the hypothesis-driven and other approaches.
  6. Contribute to and manage projects using quantitative and qualitative research being undertaken by consultants.
  7. Prepare reports and/or presentations with appropriate data analyses, interviews, either through field participation or collection and analysis of available data.
  8. Perform all other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: University degree in the field of natural and social sciences or related field from a recognized university.
Desirable: Advanced university degree (master's level or higher) or doctorate degree in a related field.

Experience

Essential: At least two years of relevant professional experience (e.g., public health, management consulting, research). Previous experience in conducting and managing research and performing quantitative and qualitative data analysis on public health topics. Proven experience applying the hypothesis-driven approach.
Desirable: Previous experience in working at the World Health Organization. Relevant international exposure. First-hand working experience at the country level.

  • Knowledge of public health topics and health systems development and management with good understanding of relevant country's needs, priorities, and policies, along with WHO's policies, practices, guidelines and procedures in the related areas and ability to apply them in the country office setting.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 50,377 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 2074 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
