Main Purpose of the Job:

The main purpose of the job is to provide support to the project and ERD team point.

Duties and responsibilities:

  1. Technical Support:
    • Provide technical guidance to beneficiaries on various aspects of animal husbandry, including animal housing, feeds and feeding, breeds and breeding, disease management, livestock marketing, and overall livestock and poultry farming.
  2. Training Sessions:
    • Conduct comprehensive training sessions for selected beneficiaries in target communities, focusing on poultry and livestock management.
  3. Knowledge and Skills Evaluation:
    • Evaluate the knowledge and skills of beneficiaries who have received training to ensure the effectiveness and accuracy of the training approach.
  4. Livestock Management Training:
    • Conduct training on different steps for improved livestock and poultry management, emphasizing disease prevention, increased milk and egg production, and profitability.
  5. Coordination and Exchange:
    • Organize and coordinate meetings among area animal husbandry beneficiaries, facilitating the exchange of ideas, opinions, and views for the development of animal husbandry and increased livestock and poultry production.
  6. Farmers Field Schools (FFS):
    • Demonstrate good information and experience in Farmers Field Schools (FFS) related to livestock and poultry production.
  7. Training of Female Beneficiaries:
    • Conduct specialized training sessions for female beneficiaries on poultry and dairy production, ensuring the effective implementation of poultry activities.
  8. Facilitate Discussions:
    • Facilitate discussions with women beneficiaries on topics related to livestock production and animal husbandry.
  9. Market Linkages:
    • Work collaboratively with other team members to link beneficiaries to the local market, aiming to generate income for the community.
  10. Construction and Biosecurity:
    • Collaborate with beneficiaries to construct or rehabilitate stables and coops for livestock and poultry, ensuring consideration of biosecurity measures during construction.
  11. Disease Prevention:
    • Enhance the skills of beneficiaries in disease prevention and treatment for livestock, ensuring the availability of quality primary treatment.
  12. Procurement Involvement:
    • Participate in procurement phases to ensure that procured livestock are in good health and meet specified standards.
  13. Fodder Preparation Training:
    • Train target beneficiaries in preparing locally made fodder for livestock, promoting cost-effective and sustainable feeding practices.
  14. Active Participation in Meetings:
    • Actively participate in meetings conducted by Government, INGOs, and UN agencies at the field level, representing the livestock and poultry management program.
  15. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain clear filing and documentation of attendance, expenses, and outcomes of training, workshops, and meetings.
  16. Curriculum Development:
    • Develop curriculums, manuals, and agendas for the training sessions and workshops, ensuring relevance and effectiveness.
  17. Collaboration with Kabul Team:
    • Share developed curriculums, manuals, and agendas with the Kabul team for review and alignment with organizational standards.
  18. Market Linkages (Repeated):
    • Strengthen linkages between poultry and livestock beneficiaries and local markets to enhance income generation.
  19. Collaboration with Dairy Farms:
    • Closely collaborate with existing dairy farms and facilitate connections between female livestock beneficiaries and these dairy farms.
  20. Intern Training:
    • Train university and Agriculture department interns on the principles of Farmers Field Schools (FFS) and practical aspects of livestock and poultry management.
  21. Internal Meetings:
    • Participate actively in internal weekly and monthly meetings, providing updates and insights on the livestock and poultry program.
  22. Adherence to Policies:
  • Abide by IRC personnel policies and regulations, ensuring compliance with organizational standards.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Education:
    • Bachelor's/master’s degree in animal science, Veterinary Medicine, or a related field.
  2. Experience:
    • Minimum of 2-3 years of practical experience in livestock and poultry management, with a focus on community-based projects.
  3. Technical Expertise:
    • Demonstrated expertise in animal housing, feeds and feeding, breeds and breeding, disease management, and livestock marketing.
  4. Training Experience:
    • Proven experience in conducting effective and engaging training sessions, particularly in the context of Farmers Field Schools (FFS).
  5. Evaluation Skills:
    • Ability to evaluate the knowledge and skills of beneficiaries who have received training, ensuring the training approach is accurate and impactful.
  6. Community Engagement:
    • Enthusiasm for engaging with rural communities and marginalized urban households, with a commitment to improving livelihood opportunities.
  7. Agricultural Qualification:
    • Background or qualification in agriculture, with a sound understanding of agricultural systems and practices.
  8. Travel Readiness:
    • Willingness to travel within regions and to other areas for training sessions.
  9. Language Proficiency:
    • Effective communication skills in both Dari and Pashto, both verbally and in writing.
  10. Literacy and Numeracy:
    • Good level of literacy and numeracy, with proficiency in computer skills being an asset.
  11. Business Management Understanding:
    • Understanding of small business management and labor market dynamics, particularly in the context of livestock and poultry farming.
  12. Self-Motivation and Persuasion:
    • Self-motivated individual with strong persuasion skills, capable of maintaining relationships and working independently.
  13. Gender Sensitivity:
    • Sensitivity to gender issues and a commitment to promoting gender-inclusive practices.
  14. Market Linkages Experience:
    • Experience in establishing linkages between beneficiaries and local markets to generate income.
  15. Biosecurity Knowledge:
    • Familiarity with biosecurity measures and considerations in the construction and rehabilitation of stables and coops.
  16. Procurement Involvement:
    • Experience participating in procurement processes related to livestock, ensuring the procurement of healthy animals.
  17. Documentation and Reporting Skills:
    • Strong skills in maintaining clear and organized documentation of training sessions, expenses, and outcomes.
  18. Curriculum Development:
    • Ability to develop curriculums, manuals, and agendas for effective training programs.
  19. Collaboration and Teamwork:
    • Proven ability to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders, fostering a collaborative working environment.
