Organizational Setting

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) contributes to the achievement of the 20230 Agenda through FAO Strategic Framework by supporting the transformation to MORE efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems, for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life, leaving no one behind.

FAO’s Food and Nutrition Division (ESN) assists members to improve diets and raise levels of nutrition, as well as provides support with appropriate policies, strategies and methodologies for improving the efficiency and inclusiveness of their agriculture and food systems. As a knowledge leader, areas addressed include dietary assessment, support on nutrition-sensitive food and agriculture policies and programmes, effective nutrition promotion programmes, food value chains, market linkages, post-harvest handling, food loss and waste reduction and nutrition-sensitive agro-processing. FAO is committed to supporting Members in their efforts to improve nutritional outcomes as stated in the Rome Declaration on Nutrition (November 2014) and to mainstream nutrition across all the work of the Organization.


Reporting Lines

The incumbent works under the overall guidance of the Director, Food and Nutrition Division and the direct supervision of a Senior Officer.

Technical Focus

The technical focus of the work is on the management of knowledge and learning processes and practices in support to ESN programme of work, within the framework of FAO’s nutrition agenda.

More specifically, these processes aim at supporting the implementation of projects and programmes through the management of information and knowledge, and the dissemination and uptake of knowledge in institutions and the wider governance context at country level.


Tasks and responsibilities

• Facilitate the development and implementation of knowledge management and learning processes and their integration within projects and programmes in collaboration with country actors and FAO’s decentralized offices and partners.
• Provide support to the development and maintenance of knowledge and learning platforms and repositories as resources for projects and programmes implementation.
• In collaboration with technical teams, identify and disseminate relevant information, lessons learned, good practices, and knowledge and learning products that facilitate learning at the organizational level.
• In collaboration with technical teams, develop knowledge and learning products such as briefs, case studies, collections of practices, online and face-to-face capacity development and other relevant materials, based on project results and work at field level.
• Design, host and/or facilitate multi-stakeholder knowledge sharing and learning events, webinars and workshops, involving FAO’s relevant technical experts and external partners.
• Undertake travel or provide remote support for knowledge management and learning activities benefiting government counterparts and other selected national partners.
• Foster knowledge utilization and uptake in collaboration with FAO’s teams and Decentralized Offices.
• Disseminate learning materials, good practices and relevant information to support the implementation of FAO programmes and projects, both internally and externally.
• Develop stories in support of thematic areas of work and integrate them in relevant knowledge databases.


CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING


Minimum Requirements

• Advanced university degree (for Consultants) / University degree (only for PSA) in knowledge management and learning, capacity development or in a relevant discipline.
• A minimum of one year (Category C), five years (Category B) or 10 years (Category A) of relevant work experience in facilitating knowledge management and learning processes, and in developing tools for knowledge management and learning, including work experience with national and international NGOs, development and UN agencies, governments and donors.
• Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge of French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese or Russian is an asset (for PSA only one language may be required).
