The UNESCO Office for Iraq is seeking to hire a qualified graphic designer for graphical design and  develop high-quality graphic materials that effectively promote UNESCO's projects in Mosul and Basrah. 

 

Background: 

The UNESCO Office in Iraq is implementing the Phase III of the project Reviving Mosul and Basrah Old Cities.  The aim of Phase III of the project is to create the right conditions for local stakeholders to take over the process of urban and cultural revitalization by supporting them to develop policy frameworks while building up their technical capacities.  The specific objective of Phase III is the creation of jobs in Mosul and Basrah driven by the endogenous reconstruction of the built heritage of the Old Cities and by a revived cultural life led by local stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility of the Consultant Graphic Designer objective of this position is will be to develop high-quality graphic materials that effectively promote UNESCO's projects in Mosul and Basrah. The Graphic Designer will work closely with the Creative Production Consultant and other UNESCO Team members to ensure that all materials align with UNESCO's branding guidelines and project goals, in support of UNESCO’s conservation, stabilization and rehabilitation activities in Mosul and Basrah.

 

Duties:

•Support to preparation of exhibitions
•Create visually appealing and professional graphic materials, including but not limited to brochures, posters, banners, social media graphics, and presentations.
•Develop project visibility materials that effectively communicate the goals, progress, and impact of UNESCO's initiatives in Mosul and Basrah.
•Ensure all graphic materials adhere to UNESCO's branding guidelines and visual identity standards.
•Maintain a cohesive and consistent look across all promotional materials.
•Bring fresh and innovative design ideas to enhance the visual appeal of project materials.
•Stay updated with the latest design trends and tools to ensure high-quality outputs.
•Ability to prepare rough concept drafts and present ideas.
•Amend designs after feedback.

•Adheres to production schedules and deadlines.
•Effectively demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills on complex assigned tasks.
•Reviewing final layouts and suggesting improvements when necessary.
•Prepare, manage, and participate in presentations to donors and government counterparts.
•Contribute as required to weekly UNESCO project team meetings.
•Coordinating with outside agencies, art services, web designer, marketing, printers, and colleagues as necessary.
•Undertake other relevant tasks as assigned by UNESCO’s Creative Production Consultant, Project Manager and/or Head of Culture Unit.

•  Duration: One year with a three-month probationary period.
•  Estimated start: 01 September 2024
•  Candidate Should be either based in Basrah, Mosul or Erbil

• The selected candidate will work “on call” for UNESCO Iraq. 

• The Consultant’s services will be paid at the daily rate; the Consultant must quote their proposed daily rate in their application for the position.

• Before each assignment, UNESCO and the Consultant will agree in writing on the number of workdays required to carry out the assignment.  Once the deliverables of the assignment have been submitted and approved by UNESCO, the Consultant will invoice UNESCO according to the number of worked days agreed upon and the daily rate they have quoted.    

• No additional service costs shall be incurred without proper written authorization of UNESCO.
• The Contractor’s services at daily-rate for the aforesaid professional services are to be paid monthly by UNESCO upon submittal of deliverables,  timesheet statement, and payment claim.

Qualifications and Experience:

•Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or a related field, from an accredited university is preferred.
•Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience is required.
•A strong portfolio of illustrations or other graphics.
•Advanced knowledge of current versions of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Freehand, After Effects, Dreamweaver, CorelDraw Graphic Suite, AutoCAD Software, Microsoft Publisher & Visto is required.
•Excellent communication skills.
•Understanding of branding, layout, color theory, and typography.
•Ability to work under tight deadlines and adapt to changing project needs.
•A good knowledge of English as a language of professional work and communication.

A.    Technical Written proposal consisting of:

•    Samples of the previous work including Reports, Guidelines, Booklets, curricula, Brochure, Roll Up, Banners, Calendars, Folders, Notebooks, Posters, Promotional Materials (posters, billboards).  Shortlisted candidates to the position will be required to submit a 10-page portfolio of their work.

b.    A Financial proposal in US dollars. The Consultant’s services will be paid at the daily rate; the Consultant must quote their proposed daily rate in their application for the position.
